Okay - I am not one to call in to work, especially in a new job, but I started my orientation at this hospital in late May (28th) and am finally getting my first productive schedule for the pay period. Now my hospital's work week beings on a Wednesday (19th of June as of right now) and ends on a Tuesday (25th). I am part time .6 FTE, so I am required to work two shifts for that pay period. I REALLY need at least one day off of my two shifts as I have a HUGE exam on Tuesday afternoon. I have already discussed rearranging my schedule, but the only thing my boss can do is put me on another night, and if you have worked nights then you know, its like working two days (one to sleep through and the other to work). Obviously this is a dilemma I feel horrible about, but unfortunately cannot avoid. To call out of work on a shift is a count of one occurrence for the year, I REALLY need at least one day off to prepare and study extra for my exam. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do? I really feel horrible about having to either take a day off or tell them I simply cannot come in as scheduled, but I do love my job and want to continue making positive moves as this position is still very new for me. I am afraid I don't know what to do :/

Just study at the latest possible time. If you need to study the day before so you can pass, you really don't know the material.
Or ask someone to switch days with you.
I rearranged my weekend working shifts to Friday night and Monday night. I will just go home and sleep a couple hours before my test on Tuesday, that way after my test I can just relax. I will just be doing some study sessions on a really strong coffee high. It should make for an interesting weekend to say the least!
