I received an offer from Amerigroup as a Behavioral Health Case Manager.
Hours M-F 8:00am-5:00pm, it will be a work from home field position. I have to go to client's homes.
However, the human resources lady asked me is I was informed about the on call duties.
I did see the 24/7 on call listed on the job discriptions but wasn't told about it in the interview and didn't think to ask about it.
Is it common to have 24/7 on call duties?
Should I be compensated or just have to deal with it because I will be salaried?
Should I be paid for mileage since we are traveling to homes?
I want this job but very nervous about being over over worked!!!

I would never take 24/7 call. period. And any call should have reimbursement as should mileage.

Having previously worked in a position similar to this - I strongly urge you to clarify all these details before making a decision to accept. Yes mileage should be reimbursed unless they are providing a car for you to use? 24/7 coverage usually is covered as a salaried position but you need to find out what exactly is expected. Do you have to get up at 3am and go to a client's home to address their emergency? If so how are you compensated for your time? Ask the questions now and get it in writing so there will be no confusion later.
Thanks for the replies. I emailed the interviewer and she said she had never hear about it and will check on it and get back with me!!!
Kind of unorganized so I will see what they say and will definately get everything in writing if I accept the position!!!

Yikes. There are no other nurses to share the burden? We have on call nurses but it is only after hours and on weekends and it is voluntary. If just your responsibility to take call 24/7 I would NOT take job. Clarification definitely needed.
It is a M-F 8-5 job. They said the on-call (beeper) will be for after hours emergencies with foster kids. She really didn't understand what our duties would be besides having a beeper but they hired 10 case managers so it wouldn't be just me!! So, I'm still confused...

I would imagine that if it's one of your patients you are to go out but not all the patients will have the same nurse on call. Just my guess. And a lot of places only reimburse if the drive is over 30 miles away. Definitely ask for clarification.
