American Red Cross nursing assistant course

Published

Hello everyone,

I am currently registered for a certified nursing assistant course through a local community college. I've attended one class and while I think it is a good course, I'm considering dropping it and taking the nursing assistant class through my local American Red Cross.

Has anyone taken a nursing assistant course through American Red Cross? Just wondering if anyone has any experience or opinions on it.

Thanks!

Why are you thinking of doing this? Are the hours better or something? Usually the community college courses are longer and more comprehensive, which is good, but when you're looking for employment I don't think anyone really cares where you took your class. If you drop the class will you get your money back?

The class I'm taking at the community college is one day per week for 10 weeks. Each class meeting is 5 hours. After the 10 weeks we will have a week break and then do clinicals.

The class I can take through the American Red Cross meets 4 days per week for 4 weeks and then a few days of clinicals.

I feel like I would be more comfortable taking the class that meets more than once per week spread over 2+ months.

I will get money back for the course if I drop it within the next couple days. That's why I am struggling with what to do.

Hi,I took the red cross course in FL. I really enjoyed it and felt they did a pretty darn good job of teaching it,my classes were 3 days a week 9-4 for 7 weeks. Goodluck on whatever you decide! Michelle

Where can I find information on the Red Cross CNA course?

I found the local American Red Cross CNA course info on the Red Cross website, http://www.redcross.org. You can put your zipcode to find your local chapter and then it should list local courses.

i took my cna class through the red cross. i loved it!. i also looked around at local comminuty colleges and i decided against it becouse the time and the cost, one even had a waiting list. i wanna say that mine was about 4 or 5 weeks mon-thurs 9am-2pm and had 3 days of clinicals at the end. i learned a lot ,and it doesnt matter where you went ,i think most places only care if your state certified, and i passed that without any problems.its mostly commen sense really.but good luck with whatever you decide to do!:heartbeat-melissa

yes the state board written test and skills is mostly "common" sense.just as long as you dont let ya nerves get the best of you:nono::rolleyes: the written was a breeze,I just got sooo nervous knowing the strange lady was following me around ,that I screwed up and forgot to wash the "dummies" back. ......goodluck to you and I think you will really enjoy the red cross course!

Thanks for the insight everyone. I think I'm going to take the CNA class through the Red Cross in March.

I have another question. When you take the state test is it always using a dummy, or on a real patient/resident? Hopefully that isn't a completely dumb question!

no dumb questions here...part of the test is on a real person, like weight, vitals etc...but things like peri-care ,you use the mannequin.

How much does the cna class through Red cross cost??

Thanks in advance for any info.

I live in Minnesota and the cost of the course is $800 which includes a book and background check. The costs probably varies from state to state.
