Am I taking on too much?

I was talking to one of the nurses at work today and after telling her my schedule and that I will be starting nursing school in August she asked me if I thought I could handle "all that" or if I thought that maybe I am trying to tackle too much. I will be working 9-5:30 wednesdays, thursdays and fridays 9-4:30 mondays and tuesdays and my classes will be 5-9pm monday and tuesday evenings with clinicals on Saturday 7-3:30pm. I know I will be busy and I have given up A LOT already to dedicate myself to my studies and work. I am not going into this thinking that this is going to be a blast. I figure many others must have done it or else my school would not have a schedule to even accomodate working students to begin with.

I guess I am so mad because I feel that who is this woman to tell me or attempt to tell me what my limitations are. Secondly, as a nurse I feel she should have been at least a little sympathetic/supportive. I guess maybe she feels that she knows first hand how difficult all this is so maybe she was giving me a heads up. I don't know. I just needed to vent...it's bad enough I am having a serious case of new student jitters. Thanks for listening.

i guess the best thing is to just trust yourself and go for it! screw her for psyching you out! ( or trying to!)

just see how it goes, and if you need to take one day off of yoru work schedule if you can!

Good luck!

TCW.....none of us really knew how much we could truly handle until we got our feet wet in the nursing program. As you go along, take it a step at a time, pull back if you need to, and best of luck to you along the journey. :kiss

Toyna,

Maybe she thought she was being sympathetic/supportive---trying to look out for your best interests...she knows what nursing school is like. Some programs have a 50% drop out rate..it is hard. Most programs recommend 2-3 hours of study for every hour of class...will your schedule allow for that? I would rather have people be honest with me than tell me things just to make me feel better. You might do great! I just know for me, I would need more study and sleep time. Best wishes to you and all the rest of us students...:nurse:

I guess she may have been trying to be supportive (maybe not the right word) and I took it the wrong way. I am just feeling a little nervous about starting clinicals anyway. I have been trying to study for my A&P II final and I can't even concentrate.
