Am I cut out for nursin?

Published

I have been applying to nursing school for 2 years now, and the student loans are piling up. My first year was at a large college, and ended up having to retake A&P1, making me unable to apply for fall semester. My counselor told me to keep trying, but at different college. So then I went to a community college. Now, its the end of the year and i have a 4.0, but recieved a 72% on the TEAS test. The full amount of points i woul need a 78, so i am short 5 points and was told by my councilor that i MIGHT get in.

However, i was accepted into a BSN program at another school. Itll still be another 4 years of school, i am just not sure if i should keep trying. I feel like other people are so much better at this than I am, and I am worried i wont be a good nurse no matter what grades i get or how many schools i apply to.

Should i give up and find somthing new to do? I am a capable person and hardworking. I just don't know what I am doing wrong. Maybe I am not cut out for this after all. The self-doubt is destroying me.

Only you can answer that question.

For what it's worth, my son also took a couple of years of prerequisites before he was accepted to nursing school. And he didn't get into his first choice of schools. But he persisted and got into a program, and I for one think he's going to do well. I'm sure you will too, if it's what you really want.

By the way, welcome to Allnurses. We are glad you're here!

Grades in nursing school are not an indication of how you will perform as a nurse.... Pencil and paper are just that... If waiting is an issue, maybe this is the wrong career, but only you can decide. After my prereqs I was on the waiting list for 2 Years because at that time everyone was put on the waiting list in whatever order they finished and your placement had nothing to do with GPA or grades. I graduated with an ADN in more time then it would've taken to get a BSN because of the wait... Only you can know if you want to be a nurse, but persistence and hard work are key. Yes, it will only get harder from here but will also at some point get easier..... To end on (and this is something I must remind myself constantly) there is a quote that says a flower does not concern itself with other flowers, it just simply blooms.
