Almost done, What should I start working on to get a job

Published

Hello Everyone,

I am currently a nursing student and if all goes well I will have my Diploma in Nursing (RN) in exactly 1 year.:yeah: Being that I am two semesters away from starting my new career as a nurse, I wanted to take a proactive approach and get some feedback from you folks about how do I position myself to get a nursing job shortly after passing the boards. I currently live in Central New Jersey. I attend Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center School of Nursing.

1. Does anyone have links to resumes for new grads? What's important to put on your resume?

2. Should I be picky about what fields I apply to? Previous conversations have lead me to believe that Med Surge is where I will probably end up at first and it is recommended that new grads should work 1 year in Med Surge.

3. I have heard that internships are recommended. I currently work fulltime and I may not have the chance to work in a hospital setting. Is this type of experience really critical?

If you can offer any additional advice I would appreciate it.

Thanks folks.
