As nurses, we have seen and experienced the effects of short staffing - burnout, poor patient care, falls, missing nurses missing meals and breaks, nurses leaving the bedside, frustration, stress, guilty feelings... I could go on. But you know what I am talking about.

Once again, on April 25th and 26th, 2018 nurses will be going to Washington DC to stand up for safer staffing and quality patient care, encouraging legislators to vote for the 2 identical Federal bills in the House of Representatives and Senate, backed by grassroots nurses.

The Nurse Staffing Standards for Hospital Patient Safety and Quality Care Act of 2018

Thousands of nurses from across the county will be traveling to Washington, DC to show their support. Some of the allnurses team along with Nurse Beth and Nurse Keith will be there as well. allnurses is supporting Federally Mandated Nurse-Patient ratios. We dedicated our first allnurses Magazine to the Safe Staffing Movement as well as hosted Facebook Live Events with Nurse Beth and Nurse Keith to provide more information to our readers.

We know not everyone can be present at the rally. But you can show your support and spread the word to your coworkers, friends, and family. This is not for nurses only. Everyone can affect the outcome of this bill and the safety and quality of care. The allnurses staff teamed up with our cartoonist to create a T-shirt to show support for this movement. Wearing this shirt is a great way to advocate the need for safer staffing and quality care.

I like the shirt, but it makes me sad - because it is so true. And a large part of the problem is nurses who clock out for lunch but stay working. Why are they participating in there own misery? why should management hire more staff when all the nurses are saying they got a break. We need to quit covering for management, quit thinking you are being a "team player" by giving management a free nurse for 30 minutes. If we don't stand together we will never prevail.

Its because management hounds you down asking why you did not take a break, or comes and tells you to go take your break....all in the middle of pt. care. AND because nurses are disciplined for not taking breaks. They aren't doing it to be a "team player." They are doing it to keep their job and stay under the radar.
