Does anyone have any experience with the clinical rotation for the part time nursing program at JSCC? I'm curious as to the clinical schedule...

Specializes in ER, IICU, PCU, PACU, EMS.

Moved to the Alabama Nursing forum.

I'm 1st semester in the full time program but I do know that part time doesn't start clinicals until their 2nd semester. You will not get exact days & times until then when they are assigned. We start ours next month and all we know is they will be Wed, Thurs or Fri. Hope this helps!

I'm in the nights/weekends program. What specific questions do you have about the schedule? Are you already in the program or are you thinking about applying?

I'm applying to the program for this fall. Couple questions: 1) generally how points will I need? 2) do you have class during the summer? 3) when are clinicals? Thank you for being willing to answer my questions!

No one knows the exact points that will be the cutoff number until the time comes. It's best to have the highest you can get. I think the cutoff for this past spring was around 185, but it really depends on how many applicants there are. Yes, unfortunately you do have classes in the summer. It goes straight on through until your done. For NW classes you go 7 semesters instead of 5 like full time and won't start clinicals until your 2nd semester which will be next spring for you. Hope this helps

Thanks for the info! I have another question: during the first semester of the part-time program, what is the class schedule? The schedule says 1 credit hour per class (health assessment & intro to pharm) and I spoke with a nursing advisor who said that there is no lecture, just a three hour lab. But the schedule shows a three hour lecture AND lab.

We had lecture two nights a week and labs. Clinicals started second semester on Sarurday and/or Sunday. You do have lab for health assessment first semester but that is on top of lecture.

So the two nights a week includes lecture AND labs?

Yes. One night you would have Pharm and one night you would have health assessment. Health Assessment has lab attached to it so some nights you will have lecture that night followed by lab. Other times you will just have lecture for that class.

Great! Doesn't sound too bad... I really would like to start learning what I can before I start school... any recommendations on what I could start studying beforehand?

I would focus on getting your prereqs out if the way and doing well on the TEAS test. I promise, there will be plenty if time so study for nursing school once you get accepted.
