You are absolutely right two wrongs don't make a right.
But i do not think i am wrong for venting here how i feel about the terrible things my colleagues are doing to me.
At work, I just grin and bear it! When they give me the sickest, heaviest(500lbs+), most confused patients...it is just unfair. I run around all day like a chicken without a head while they sit on the internet and socialize. Then the icing on the cake is when they tell me i have to admit another patient.
In addition to giving me the worst assignemnt they also grumble all day about how much money i make and how rich i am. If i was so rich i definitely will not be working my a#@ off there and putting up with their b@# s%$#@!
They don't realize they have alot that i don't have: paid vacation, sick time, job security, pension, excellent benfits, etc.
I never and i repeat never give them the satisfaction of knowing that i am annoyed my their snyde comments and unfair assignments. I smile the entire day, joke with them, and just play along. Because at the end of the day as i said before they are not signing my paycheck.
So, yes these are sad nurses.
When i was staff i embraced the agency and travel nurses because i wanted them to come back. I thankful for the supplemental staff.
As far as these nurses not wanting to leave their job because of seniority. That is not my problem. That is their personal problem and should not be taken out on others.
My philosophy in life is to make myself and my family happy. So if i am unhappy at a job, I leave. There is no reason for me to stick around and feel abused and unappeciated.
So you are probably thinking that "some people don't like change". I don't like change, however it is part of life. If you cannot adjust to change then you are in trouble.
So the answer is NO-NO-NO...I cannot empathize with these nurses.
There is no ligitimate reason for them to be cruel.

As I have worked Agency in the past, I do have to admit there were certainly grumblings about the amts of money I was making...In our general area, yes agency nurses definitely made more money than the staff nurses, and not on holidays...on regular days and on weekends...sometimes by at least $10-$15 per hour depending on years of service and/or hospital you worked at. The sad part is, your comment about the "some nurses are so sad," i think by simply saying that, you actually included yourself in that. The sad part is that you are a nurse talking about other nurses like that...did you ever think that's why they aren't very fond of having you around...its that kind of attitude that causes a disconnect between floor and agency nurses...You also have to see it from their point of view...They work full time and most bust their a$$ for their money day in and day out...they are used to working full time under less than optimal conditions, they are frustrated, they are overworked, they are underpaid, they also have to hear how their hospital has no money to pay them or to improve conditions or to have any retention or recruitment and in the same breath pay outside nurses to do the same job for more money. I think they have a right to be a little frustrated. Yes, they could easily go out and work agency, however its not for everyone...some specialties there aren't as many hours available therefore not offering steady gauranteed work..not to mention, they have probably put in 10 years service with the same health system and they would lose all of their seniority. So agency nursing is not for everyone...I have a child and I need week in and week out gauranteed hours...I like that I consistantly can go to the same place now and work the same hours. That is why I left agency. It was great when I was in my early 20's but its not as feasible for me now. So instead of jumping all over them and saying how sad they are, how about empathizing with their cause and supporting them rather than working against them...I agree there are also those that are chronic mal-contents....however there are a some great staff nurses out there that just work hard for their money the best way they know how and certainly don't need people that are their equals talking down to them...two wrongs don't make it right...
