Advice for new agency nurse

  1. Well, not a new nurse...just new to the world of agency nursing.

I've decided to sign up with one as a way to augment my income, and found an agency with psych placements (whee!). I don't have to travel out of my area and the schedule is very is lower than what I'm getting at my other job, but I don't mind too much as I prize the flexibility and experience more right now. So--pending successful drug and background screens--I've joined your ranks

Since there's no handy sticky (yet) on this forum with tips for nurses new to agency nursing, I thought I'd ask if anyone had any advice or words of wisdom they would like to share.

    Thanks in advance!

I'm not a psych nurse, but I'm not new to agency nursing. My advice is to go to the same facility, if possible, over and over in the beginning to get used to the swing of things. This will make things a lot easier. Make yourself available to help the staff also. The more you go to the facility, the less you'll be seen as an outsider and more like part of the staff. Finally, document, document, document.
