After Completing CNA training, How soon to take the exam??

Published

Hello Everybody,

Quick question: I'm scheduled to start my CNA training August 15th and it ends Sept.2 2011(fast track program).

I'm looking to get into a nursing program in the spring session next year, and the deadline to turn in all documents is Oct. 15th. I asked the instructor when the competency exam is and he said Oct.15th... :-( Is it possible to take this exam much earlier than what he is saying?? Because I hate to miss the deadline and end up going for the fall quarter. I found a few other dates available at some other testing sites, and they are in September, can I just register there and take the test?? I want to know because I really want to get the ball rolling for the spring session instead of waiting and basically pushing my graduation date back to a whole year almost...Any suggestions is appreciated!!

P.S. I'm in Chicago and if you have any other programs that may start in July or Aug that is either free or not too costly, feel free to send me that information, I prefer to have some options.

When you fill in your bubble sheet for testing registration you should be able to fill in the testing site number and date of the exam. Whether they will allow you to take it that day, i'm not sure. You may need to talk to your instructor to let them know that you want to take it earlier.

If they're telling you you can take it in October, it may have to do with paperwork and such. You know how slow the state can be!

good luck.

I'm in CNA class in NC, and we're told that we have to wait at least 14 business days after graduating before we can take the exam. Best of luck to you!

FutureNeoNursing what CNA program did you take? I am in Chicago and am looking for the quickest program possible!! This sounds promising

klraptis it's a fast track program at health restoration academy in oaklawn,il 4243 w 95th it's only 3 weeks long and the cost is around $900 when you add the exam and uniforms and books. (708) 422-2481, the next class is ) sept 19-oct 7th and it's usually another class right after (7 days later). you can put $100 deposit to hold your seat. http://www.healthrestorationacademy.org/

also there is another program that is 5 weeks long called samland institute of allied health which i'm really considering since i missed the registration, there cost is about $650 and they have classes starting 9/3 9/6 9/7 and 10/3 depends on what location you attend. here is the link:http://www.samlandinstitute.com/sched.asp

they require at least $300 down and you make payments up until your last week of class...let me know if you need anything else!

You will have to ask your program director if you can take it somewhere else. I did my CNA at a community college and we all had to test on the same date and same place (which was at the college) Our testing fee was worked into our tuition and we had no other option. I did a 16-week,weekend course and we got done with class and clinical in May and didn't test until a month later in June. We tested on June 16th and didn't have results until our names were on the registry on June 20th.

Good Luck!

Thanks Brandi! I kinda knew it would be like that,it's cool I guess I can start the nursing program in the spring or fall semester next year. By that time I can knock out some more pre reqs out the box!

I just started a CNA course in NC and we were told we could take the test 10-12 days after course completion.

Oh and I am in IL too, so you would probably have the same time frame as far as testing and finding out results.

Take the first available testing date so that your skills are still fresh.

Good luck!
