After almost a year of being semi-unemployed, I finally landed a job as a Case Manager. Mind you, I'm not a New Grad. I thought after quitting my last job, that I wouldn't have problems finding another job due to the fact that I have 2+ years of nursing experience. Was I wrong! Next time I know to quit after I secured myself another job, but I hope that doesn't happen. I plan to stay at this position for a long, long, long time.
So to those who are still unemployed, keep the faith and be VERY patient.

Congratulations! That's pretty awesome, CM is very difficult to get into in my area, especially for a newer nurse.
I also found it difficult to get hired on anywhere within the last several years, much harder than I would have predicted. My current job was easier for me to get on at because a good friend of mine was an assistant manager on another unit in the hospital and she personally recommended me. Otherwise it might have been much more difficult to get hired.
I wonder if people have been trying home health? I seem to get a lot of flyers in the mail asking me to apply to different home health agencies. But one thing I've learned: I may grumble about my job at times, but it's a full-time job with decent pay, which is more than a lot of people can find these days. Like you, I plan to milk this position for all it's worth.
Good luck!

thats great news. I too left a job, thinking I would get another within a short space of time. However, this has not been the case, although I have a second non nursing job that just makes ends meet..but thats it.
I some times regret leaving my old job (although i am doing the odd casual shift) and then other days I dont.
I just want to know how you got through a year of inetrviews, applying ect...I've been doing it for a few months and am SO over it, i cant be bothered now so am coasting along...yet i am still a bit stressed and worried as casual is not guaranteed income. I do keep telling myself that I have a job and can pay my bills and mortage so not to stress, but then 5 minutes later I a stressing and back on the net searching for jobs..leading to more stress!!

Get a good headhunter and let them do the work for you. They often are privy to jobs, not advertised. They will do your resume, coaching, and negotiating. Tell them what you are looking for, and they will try and match you. Sometimes, they can get you into a more challenging position, than you ask for. I only use headhunters and have for years. To me, the only way to go. Peace!
Hi bulletproof,
Initially I've gone to job fairs, worked as independent contractor and temp agencies. Anything that shows in your resume that you are still working as a nurse. Funny thing is that this last job, I just happened to see it in indeed.com because I had experience working in referrals as an MA and did not put much thought into it. I thought to myself, that if I didn't get this job, I will just concentrate on going back to do my BSN. Like you, I was already fed up with rejections and lack of responses. They wanted somebody with 3-5 years UR experience. What was different about this is that they made me feel comfortable in both of my interview. (I told them ahead of time that I was nervous.) Also, the fact that the staff who interviewed me used to work at my previous job and knew several of my references. So, that was a plus. It was a coincidence...small world indeed.
I would recommend like Chin Up had mentioned, get a headhunter. What I also did was go to a job search counselor through a flyer I saw at the library. Their services are free. They review your resume, prepare you for mock interviews and give you plenty of tips. I recommended several people to go to my counselor. You can also go to career centers.
Please keep us posted on how you are doing. It takes a lot of perseverance, so don't give up. Take a break from putting applications, submitting resumes, but don't give up. I kept telling myself regarding rejections that maybe it wasn't meant to be and that I have something much better coming along. Keep this mantra in mind to get through your days of job searching. Good luck!
