Afc (ksf Review)

Published

I am CNS and me my line manager are in same band 7, as she is little anxious to do my KSF review she is asking our lead nurse to be present. This means that i will 2 people doing my KSF review. I am not entirely happy. Can i refuse this?. To be honest i would prefer my lead nurse to do my review on his own. What do othere thinks? my review is in mid april so your help would be apprecited.

hi paris2

the handbook says:

[color=#262824]

the development review process has four stages:

1 a joint review between the individual and their reviewer - their line manager or another person acting in that capacity - of the individual's work against the demands of their post

2 the production of a personal development plan (pdp) which identifies the individual's learning and development needs and interests - the plan is jointly agreed between the individual and their reviewer

3 learning and development by the individual supported by their reviewer

4 an evaluation of the learning and development that has taken place and how it has been applied by the individual in their work.

i think you would be in your rights to ask for just one person. are you a member of the rcn, unison or amicus? if you are, ask them for advice, or speak to your staffside ksf lead - there will be one. they should be able to support you throough this.

good luck. hope it goes ok.

I had two people present for my KSF, it was ok I didnt find it to be a problem. My line manager just needed support as it is very new and didnt want to make any errors.

I think managers are really wary of KSF as the gateways have a financial attachment - your pay increment and this is quite a responsibility for them. As madwife says, she could just be very unsure about this whole scenario.

My manager has asked me to drop my professioanl portfolio to her the day before my KSF review. Is this allowed? I dont mind she go through it but i prefer to be present when she does that. What shall i do? if i refuse she may not like it.

I manage a team of nurse pracs who will likely be banded the same as me. I would hope that my team would discuss any concerns they had about any review. I would suggest that you highlight with your manager that you have concerns and explain why, see what she says. As far as your portfolio goes you dont have to put everything in there, if there are elements that you feel are personal and dont wish her to see them then give her a edited version, I would imagine she is just trying to have an idea of your scope of practice.

Just bear in mind that KSF reviews are different to what we are used to, I will discuss with my line manager before I do my reviews to make sure I do everything that I need to. If I was concerned I would ask my manager to support me by sitting in on the first few that I do.

just to update you. as mentioned before i was concern the fact my line manager asked for my portfolio to be handed in the day before. Well i did and she took it home as she did not have enough time to go through at work. next day i had my KSF review with my line manager and my lead nurse. i must admit that it went very well but i did not like the fact that my portfolio was taken out hospital.

Why? I dont understand, what could she do with it? I used to take work home with me all the time.

Having just done my reviewer training today I now see why she wanted to see your portfolio. As part of the review process she will need to evidence your achievement of the agreed profile. As with Madwife I quite often take work home and this is something that I would want plenty of time and peace and quiet to read so think also that this is perfectly resonable.

I am glad your experience wasnt as bad as you first thought.

I would feel awkward if someone took my portfolio home - I am rather attached to it - but on the plus side - it shows she was prepared to read it and invest the time in you - there's not many who would do that - so on the whole I would look on it positively...

Thankyou for all replies.
