Hey all!

I am graduating this May with my ADN and intend on pursuing my BSN shortly after graduation. I am very interested in flight nursing in the military and becoming a part of an aeromedical evacuation team in the Air Force is most appealing to me. I know the process can be along one, so I want to start my research and process early. I'd love to hear anyone's advice or experience with this route, whether it be personal or from someone you know. How likely is it to be accepted as a flight nurse and trained for aeromedical evacuation? I am prior Navy enlisted, but I know I will need civilian experience in critical or emergency care first. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I'll start by saying my military experience is from 82-96.  I also worked in an Army hospital with AF nurses from 02-06.  The best/fastest way to become a flight nurse, imo, is to join a Reserve flying unit.  If you can get in one you'll go to Flight School.  And if you actually fly (a lot) depends on what's going on in the area/world.  If you want to go active duty the best way to get to FS is to express an interest in it and then be a darn good nurse/officer, though I know some brown-nosers who have gotten slots.... But be aware that just because you go to FS if you're active duty that doesn't guarantee a AE position in a flying unit.  I think being prior Navy will help.  And...the Navy used to accept ADN nurses, have you thought about going back in and getting your BSN while you're AD, and then either trying to get a slot with them or branch transferring?
