I'm currently a staff RN, have been for just 10 mos. since graduating last July. (I'm 40 and nursing is a second career for me.) I just applied for a Pre-Admissions/Chart Review position. It states the requirement is just 1 year RN experience, preferably med-surg. So I have my fingers crossed that I will be considered for an interview. I want to be ready! Any advice from RN's with pre-admission experience? From what I know of this position, I feel it would be a good fit for me. I'm very methodical and detail-oriented, I prefer more of a controlled environment (laughable for a nurse, I know) than what I currently have on a busy in-pt unit. I enjoy the patient education piece of my current position more than anything else but time constraints and unrealistic expectations don't always permit interactions I can feel good about at the end of my day. (And I must confess, the whole 9 to 5, no holidays, no nights, no weekends appeals to me very much as well!)
What specific qualities would make one successful in this position? What interviewing tips do you have for me? What types of questions should I be asking my interviewer? Etc. Any advice from RN's with this type of experience is most appreciated!
