hello everyone...i am currently a student at a southern california community college, taking pre-recs for the nursing program. I'm looking for advice or suggestions from any of you who have been in my situation.....

*any tips on how to pay for school? i have heard there are hospitals that will pay for school if you dedicated a few years to them when you graduate?

*any recommendations for great programs in my area?

*any recommendations regarding the best places to work in southern california?

*what about travel nursing...anyone out there have a story?

I am really excited to get into the field of nursing and would appreciate any advice or suggestions...thanks

My advice is try to find a scholarship(s) and supplement with student loans so you can get finished, have time to study, and go ahead and get the BSN if at all possible. As for Southern Cal I don't know because I don't live their--yet. I will be moving to San Diego in two weeks to start a new job there. Should be interesting working with the CNA!!!!!

What do you think spacenurse?!?!?! :)

If you take a job in management at a CNA facility I think the staff will be fortunate to have you.

I know nurse managers (previously called Head Nurse) are caught in the middle. They are responsible for the quality of nursing care yet evaluated on adherance to the budget.

As for San Diego i have met a few of the nurses there. Mostly read about what they are doing. I think you could make a valuable contribution toward educating direct care nursing staff AND the management types.
