Advice for OR preceptorship

Published

Hi everyone,

I am currently a nursing student in my last semester of school. I found out yesterday that my preceptorship in OR was approved. I am excited and scared at the same time. I have always wanted to be an OR nurse and I have been lucky enough to scrub into several cases and help circulate in clinical. I was wondering if there are any books I should read and/or any advice that might be helpful. I did join AORN this past May. I have been trying to read the journals and read the questions on the member talk site. Thanks for your input!

Read the Bible.... god help you.

LOL

I am actually in my 5th week of my preceptorship (3 8-hour days a week). I have to say that everyone, including the doctors, have been extremely nice to me and are very willing to teach. I was ( and still am) quite surprised how receptive the unit was to training.

Good for you! I would say ask lots of questions and pay attention to who does really good patient care and what kind of habits you want to pick up. :)
