TN Visa

Hi,

I am a Canadian citizen and obtained by BSN in the United States. I wrote NCLEX last week and have a job in Illinois. I cannot start my visa screen until I receive my license number. I am looking to get through the process asap so I can begin working. Also do I need to have a credentials evaluation service done (for those educated outside the US pursuing licensure practice in the US - I was educated in US but a Canadian citizen..) Also I got a letter from my employer however I don't think it is detailed enough. I was also told I must begin working within 5 days of obtaining TN status, does anyone know if this is true. I am thinking about buying a kit that takes you through the steps from this website http://www.tnvisaexpert.com/overview/tn-visa-requirements/ do you think it will benefit me? Any help would be greatly appreciated on this! Thank you for you time!

Unless things have dramatically changed I don't think it is true you have to use your TN that quickly but you just might if you already have an employer that is willing to give you a job. And you can start the visa screen process even before you take NCLEX I did...and then when I received the various pieces I just sent them in. Made it faster getting things started. I am also Canadian and got my green card last May. I had OPT and then got a TN and then applied for Green Card and now am working as an NP. I just kept going to school. I did all but one English Class and One Psychology Class in Canada. The rest of my education was all done in the US. I got my LPN first, then RN, then BSN, then MSN FNP. If you have specific questions you can PM me. Good luck...you will do great.

You do not need license # for VSC just the BON to confirm you have passed NCLEX. If you trained in the US then you don't need credential service done

Hi RNgrad2006, Did you have to get your employer to sponsor you to get the green card? How many times did you have to renew your TN visa or how long did you have to wait to obtain it?

If you have a letter of employment, passed NCLEX and have vsc then I see no reason not applying for NAFTA

I also have a foreign degree. Went to the border and initially got sent back because he wanted a credential evaluation in addition to the visa screen. I tried to explain to the officer that the visa screen cert includes credential evaluation. He still wanted a separate one that clearly states degree equivalency. Returned in 1 week with the new evaluation and got approved.

Hi RNGrad2006

I was wondering if you would be able to email me your employment letter for your TN visa. The hospital I am currently working at on my OPT is trying to write me the letter but just having a hard time with everything that needs to be in there. I think if they had an example it would help them out a lot. Thank you. I can be emailed at [email protected]
