Quickest Way for Getting Things Done and Licensed in US

As most of you know, I have been recommending initial licensure in NY for quite some time. And for those of you that did not heed the warning, you now know why.

New York is three easy applications only, next you take the NCLEX exam, then you get a hard license and can endorse to almost any state afterwards. Because of the requirements of the Special Credentials Verification for New York, you do not have to do any of the running around to obtain your documents. CGFNS will obtain them for you....after you sign the release and send them the money.

NY also requires two short classes that can be done on-line, one on Child Abuse, and the other on Infection. Both are available for about $15 each and take only one hour or so.

NY BON application can be found at http://www.op.nyed.gov. You only need to submit "Form 1."

The Special Credentials Verification can be found at http://www.CGFNS.org, as well as the Visa Screen Application.

Once you have received documentation from NY that your credentials have been received and approved, submit payment to Pearson-Vue for the NCLEX exam. http://www.perasonvue.com. They are the ones that will actually send you the ATT letter, upon approval of the Board of Nursing. Be aware that this ATT (authorization to test) is only good for ninety (90) days. You will have onlt that amount of time to get the exam done in, otherwise you will lose your payment and have to start again.

Hope that this helps................ :balloons:

Most importantly, NY will issue you the license without a Social Security Number.

hi, suzanne, how are you? Im new here so I replied to a not-so-related topic. This is what I wrote:

I recently passed the phil board exam and my next step is take the NCLEX thru NY. I just want to have some clarifications though. You see, i went to 5 colleges/universities, finished 3 degrees (BSAccounting, Bach of Arts, BSNursing) and now hold 2 licences (CPA and RN). My question is, do I have to have all my records from those schools (3 of which are non-nursing) verified, that is, to have them send my records to CGFNS. My latest transcript for my BSN already includes all the subjects and grades from all these schools. How about my CPA license, should this also be verified?

thanks for any help

As long as the transcript holds all classes, then you only need that one. I would still submit a copy of your CPA license, you want to make sure that they know all of the details. If not, later one they can say that you with held information. It is always better to give them everything and let them decide what they want to use and what they don't want to.

It is usual only in the Philippines that all classes get placed on one transcript. Most other places only have the classes on the trancripts that were completed in their school.

hi suzanne, pls give me your advice on my case

i've done my verification for new york state, still yet to call cgfns coz my papers were already received by them 2 months ago, but still there is no progress to what they have posted that they're still doing preliminary review on my papers.

i've passed my application for new york state, took the required exams, but they sent me a letter stating that i must submit a copy of my visa, employment authorization or other valid immigration status.

i am a filipino nurse and plan to take the exam in hongkong. i'm sort of lost on what to do next coz i'm doing all the processing aT my own expense and don't have an employer.

For the NY application, they wanted a copy of your passport submitted with the application, just to make sure that you are legal someplace. A copy of your passport will take care of the requirement for you.

You have me confused, you said that CGFNS recieved your documents two months ago, and that you have already taken the required exams for NY, the required exam is the NCLEX, not sure how you had permission to do that.

And if NY is waiting for the passport copy, then you have not passed everything for NY. Am I missing something here?

I'm sorry suzanne if i misled you, what i meant was the short classes done on-line. i haven't taken the nclex yet, still have to follow up cgfns on my verification too.

What pages would i send them a copy of?

really really grateful for your guidance

Hi Everyone,

I'm new in all nurses. This is my first post & i hope i'm doing it right. Hi Suzanne, I sent a pte email to you not knowing how to make a post. I have the same questions in the email as I do here so, sorry for the repetition.

I'm a foreign-educated RN with a I-130 (spousal visa). I will be moving to Washington State in a couple of weeks. I've applied to CA BON with intent to transfer to WA. I went through CA primarily to avoid taking the CGFNS and also because I might work there in future. Of course, this was before I read your thread regarding the prefered NY option.

It's been 3 months since I've sent my application & transcripts and I haven't heard from them. I wonder if I've left out any documents i.e. CES report? Visa Screen? Or do I still need these since I have I-130? CA BON have cashed my check for the application fee though. How soon do you think i can expect a reply?

I understand that I should apply for my SSN# as soon as I'm in the U.S. I'm wondering if there's anything proactive I can do while I wait for CA BRN to reply. Or should I forego CA route and start my application to NY.

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

whoopee:)

The one with your picture. That is all that they need.

It takes four to six months to get approval from CA to sit for the exam, as they do their own credentials review. The do not need the CES, and the VSC is only needed for immigration. But with the I-130, that is a spousal petition, meaning that you will not have to go thru the process of getting your own green card, so you will only need the NCLEX exam.

I too have a question! The CGFNS website states that Arizona requires only the CES, and not the full certificate - does this mean I don't need to take the exam/English test? (I trained in the UK, so that shouldn't be required, I hear). Also, how long does the CES take? And can I not do the NCLEX until I have heard whether my ces report comes back +ve? Thanks! Andrew

Hi suzanne, timing means everything, and unfortuntely for me, I applied for California NCLEX licensure before I came across this site.

I would have definitely applied for NY licensure if I had seen this site earlier.

Anyway, here's my case.

I'm a Philippine RN slated to take the California NCLEX this April. I came to the US with an H4 (dependent) visa, with my wife holding an h1b (working) visa. We currently reside in Iowa.

As a dependent, I'm not entitled to a SSN, thus, California BON will not issue a license unless I produce a SSN? So how do I obtain a SSN? The only way I could think of is to have the hospital (where my wife works as a medtech) sponsor me so I could change the status of my visa and thus obtain a SSN. But I'm not sure they will do this unless I have a license???

Another thing, if (hopefully) I pass the NCLEX, can I apply for reciprocity so I may practice here in Iowa?

Hope you could enlighten me on this matter. Thanks so much!

English exams are waived for you. Arizona doesn't require the CGFNS exam, only a credentials evaluation. And you are correct, you cannot the NCLEX exam, until they give permission for you to do it, and they will not do it until they have received the CES and have approved your file, etc. Taking the NCLEX exam is the last step in getting your license, you get permission to sit for the exam when all of the reuqirements have been met, except for writing the NCLEX exam. No short cuts around that, plus you will still need to go thru the immigration process after you pass NCLEX. Not one thing can be done until you have a passing score until then. Proof mnust be submitted with the petition by your future employer.

First, you will not be applying for reciprocity, that is only for the actual NCLEX passing, it isn't for the license. You will be applying to Iowa for endorsement.

Once you pass NCLEX, find an employer in Iowa. They can submit a petition for you. You will also need to pass the English exams, if you are not exempt from them, and get a Visa Screen Certificate. But since you are already in the US, you will be having an AOS or Adjustment of Status filed on your behalf by your new employer. It will take about 60 days or so for you to receive the EAD, at this time, you will be granted a SSN#, takes about one week after you have the EAD and go to the Social Security office before you will have the number. At this point, you can submit the number to CA, and they will issue you a license number within a few days. They you can endorse to Iowa.

Unless your wife's employer is actually offering you a job, they cannot submit for a change in status for you to a different visa type. Doesn't work that way.

Immigration only requires that you pass NCLEX to be able to submit documents, it doesn't require an actual license.

Hope that this helps......................
