How long the evaluation for RN (NY State) take?

Hi Suzanne,

I'm new here. I am Japanese in US and trying to obtain the NY State RN license. Could you plese tell me how long the evaluation for RN (New York State) take?

I applied for NY RN licensure and CGFNS Credentials Verification Service for NY State this February. CGFNS received all the required documents and sent them to NY State Board of Nursing in September. When I asked NY State Board of Nursing, they told me that the evaluation would be completed about 3~4 weeks . However I recently found that they even haven't started to evaluate my case. They told me that they are waiting my transcript, which was sent to translator and they have no idea when the transcript coming back.

Now I am calling them every day and checking my application status but there is no progress and their answer is always the same. I am very confused and frustrated with this situation. I really want to know how long the evaluation process (NY State) should be taken.

If someont has same experience to me, please tell me how long did you spend for your evaluation!

Thank you.

This is why i decided to go for CES (for Illinois) instead of CVS for NY. Since i went to different schools and hold diff licenses, theres a big possibility that one of these schools will not act on one, or maybe even more, of the credentials requested by CGFNS to be verified. Remember, in CVS, it is CGFNS who will mail the school whereas in CES, we do it, hence we can personally follow up the status of our papers. Besides, you can use the CVS only for NY while there are at least 5 states requiring CES.

But the biggest issue is that Illinois will not issue a license without a SSN# and that is a big issue for most. You cannot endorse without the actual license number, and that will not get issued until you have a SSN#, which is issued once you arrive in the US. That is the major point of going the route of NY for initial licensure.

suzanne, how bout new mexico? will they issue a license without SSN?

I am a nurse from the Philippines. I am initially licensed here in the states in New Mexico then Connecticut. I got married 7 months ago and decided to move to NY. I left my old job in Connecticut and applied for my CVS-NY 6 months ago but still I can't see light at the end of the tunnel. All my documents were received by CGFNS but I found out recently that they only open documents they received through mail only after 6 weeks from receiving it. No wonder it takes forever. So here I am now newly wed and jobless. Going back to Connecticut is one of the few options I have but definitely not what I initially planned to do.

I wish my story will educate foreign nurses wishing to relocate in NY.

Well, that is what they still keep on telling me - and the rep always says something like " just be patient we will send it out "..

I applied for MA now, as N.Y. has not moved forward any more and their fairy tales were pretty annoying.

I am not quite sure how CES will go, but my next step is to fly there and visit their office to see what they do there .

hi nutella....hope everything goes well for your CES...goodluck

after almost 6 months of waiting for my CVS NY, my status is now: "Report Mailed" ;)

hopefully with the Lord's good graces, i could take and pass the NCLEX exam on the 2nd or 3rd week of May

I received my eligibility a while ago - and registered with Pearson mid Feb.

Pearson is not able to confirm with NYBON - and the Board gives an auto-reply - your message will be answered in 3-4 weeks...

Still waiting!

Usually takes about two weeks once CGFNS forwards your file to NY.
