H4 Visa in USA - Admitted to ADN program

Hello

I am on H4 visa in USA from last 6 years.

I am MS student in Bio Chemistry in INDIA.

I live in Pennsylvania. I completed all my pre req coursework and now admitted to do Associate degree in Nursing program in local community college.

My question is once I complete the ADN program, and take NCLEX certification, do you think it is easy to find H1B sponser to change my status from H4 to H1B ?

Do I really need BS in Nursing to apply for H1B in Nursing ?

( My husband is on H1B and EB3 category, since its not moving anywhere, I decided to study and start working)

Please let me know.

Thanks for your time

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.

H1B is a specialist visa that requires the job to require a minimum of a bachelors degree (and candidate to have a BSN and/or 10+ years paid specialty nursing experience). New grad ADN won't meet ICS requirements. Plus h1b requires employer to pay costs. With the current economy plus most areas having a surplus of citizen & PR new grad experienced nurses you will likely have a very difficult time finding an employer to sponsor you even if you had a BSN.

Thanks for the reply. I live in Pennsylvania and I do have state ID ( Tax ID) but no SSN. Do you think, I am eligible for NCLEX exam, one I complete the ADN program.

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Still need BSN though for H1b. Suggest checking state BON as to whether they will require a US SSN as part of their application process or let you sit NCLEX without. Some will let you sit without but will not issue a license until you provide a US SSN
