CA-NCLEX expires this December!

Help! My California NCLEX wiill expire this December. My agency has passed a letter of extension to BRN early this July. They said they have indeed extended it when we called to verify by phone. But until now, we haven't received a letter stating so. We called again two weeks ago just to be sure... and we got the same answer that my NCLEX was indeed extended. Without a letter? Is that the common practice? Am I just being paranoid? I mean without a legal black and white print that I am extended or not... it could just be regarded as hearsay. Nobody wants to take the NCLEX twice. Moreso if you already passed it the 1st time. I hope the state of California will be lenient on this matter because a lot of NCLEX will be expiring left and right until RETRO si resolved.

The chances of getting a visa in the next year or two are quite slim, no matter what your employer is promising. We have never seen anyone get an extension past the one year and CA can always make immediate changes and even stop issuing these.

You are welcome to do as you want, we are recommending that you go for a license in another state before the three years are up, the choice is up to you as to what to do.

And extensions should always be applied for by the nurse if that is what someone wishes to do; never, ever rely on your agency to do this for you because if they do not or they forgot to mail the letter, then it is you that will be rewriting the exam. You and only you are responsible for your licensing, not the agency at all.

CT actually has more requirements than CA, check their website out and they do not issue a license without a SSN# either.

The issue is to get CA to forward your passing score to a state that issues a license before your file gets destroyed.

VT, NM, AZ are a few. CT also has other requirements before they will even permit you to endorse to them, suggest that you check the requirements out to be able to endorse to them later on.

Hi Suzanne! I have written CA BON 10 months before my CA NCLEX license application expires to ask them anything I could do about this and they told me to write them again 3-4 months before my validity expires so they could tell me what options to do next. Now, I've written them a couple of weeks ago twice already to ask them about this matter but until now, they haven't replied yet.

Anyway, I would like also to ask you if you have any idea how do I ask CA toforward my passing score to a state that issues a license before my file gets destroyed. Do I email or write them personally? and to whom or where do I address it? Thank you very much!!! Your a great help:)

If you check out the sticky California for initial licensure it tells you what you need to do to move results to another state

If you are going to endorse to another state, there is no reason to even apply for the extension. You just got approval on the I-140, there is no way that you are going to be in the US in the next year.

There is no reason to make more work for everyone involved since it is not going to make any difference to your file, you cannot apply each year for another extension.

This is a key reason that we have never recommended CA for initial licensure, among others, but this is an important factor. More so with the retrogression that is in place.

Just get CA to submit your score to the new state and then complete the process for licensure by examination there, and it will be done.

hi there.. i received my notification letter of passing nclex-rn in california last september 25, 2006.

it is stated in the letter, "if you do not provide your ssn to the board of registered nursing within three years from the date of this letter, your application will be considered abandoned and your file will be destroyed"

so, when is my three years due? help!

i plan to apply for a license by examination to new mexico and just send my test results to them. i will just endorse back to ca in the future.i am taking suzanne's advice here as well as the other moderators.

thank you for your inputs.

well if the date of the letter is 25th september 2006 you just add 3 years to it and get 2009

There is no such thing as an extension of the NCLEX exam results since they do not expire. What does expire is the three years that you have to provide them with a SSN#.

Hi Suzanne! I have sent CA bon request letter to forward my test scorest to VT bon. I sent it thru fedex on Dec 13. I called CA bon to ask if they have received my letter, but up to now they haven't. My CA application is about to expire on the 20th. the operator that I have talked to said that it usually takes 3-31/2 weeks before it goes to the computer. I tried asking about the extension but they said that it can't be extended. I tried emailing them and up to now, i'm still waiting for their reply. If it goes beyond the 20th and they haven't received my letter, is it the end for me? will I have to repeat the NCLEX. or is there a possibility that only my application will be destroyed and not my test scores?

I am really getting worried, tried asking help from my lawyer but no response. Awaiting for your reply. Thanks!

Did you explain the reason why you can't possibly give them the SSN?

Some people reported they were able to get one and there was even one that was able to get one very recently and posted it here.

There has also been reports of some getting an extension and some not from previous posters from before as well. It may possibly be

dependent on the reason that was given on why one won't be able to get one on time. If one simply asked for an extension w/ no reason given at all then the answer is expected will be no.

So, did you gave the reason?

Yes, I actually did.... I had like a few minutes with the call then the line was cut. I tried calling them then again. but an automated message said that the office had to close due to bad weather. I am really not so interested in the extension except for the fact that I may not make it in time for the transfer of my results. I was trying to tell the operator that it impossible for me to get an SSN but she kept on repeating "no, we can't do that"...

Does it go when my CA application expires, my NCLEX results expire also?

There are times when calling may not be the appropriate thing to do as the one that may answer the phone may not be really the authority to handle such matters. There are many reports here that they get diff. answers from the same question, depending the who answers the phone.

If you will read some posters here that claim that were able to get an extension, they did it by sending a formal letter.

I also do not know why you only tried to do this just a month before it expires and on the month of Dec. as well when the holidays severely shortens the working days and offices usually close due to weather.

Anyway, the way I see it you already made a formal request to send a copy of test results to another State and you did send it via fedex. I presume you checked that it was indeed successfully delivered. And although they may say they have not yet received it, it may be just it was not yet reviewed yet and they usually take in consideration the date it was received rather than when it was opened up and reviewed. Another way of checking is to ask the bank that prepared your bank draft of when it was en-cashed. If it was en-cashed before the deadline then your request to send a copy to another State may already be under process.

Thanks Lawrence. I read from this forum just a few months ago that Nclex results do not expire only the CA application and the only thing you have to do is pay another application when it expires and you can't do this in advance since you can't have 2 applications with them. When I asked about a month ago how to go about this, silverdragon replied that there were issues now in CA that when you file is destroyed same goes with you test result.... that is when and only I panicked....

I guess all I have to do is wait and try to contact them thru email. Thank you for taking time in reading my inquiries.
