Advice on NCLEX Exam

Published

Hi guys, I am new here!

My test is schedule exactly 3 weeks from today. I am so scared. I have this sick feeling in my stomach that won't go away. I can't even fall asleep at night! This is too much to bare. I have taken the Kaplan course. Anyone took Kaplan? If so, was it helpful. I am now trying to get through questions... Somebody, please advise. I am terrified...

my test feb23 and i feel same way

The feeling doesn't ever really go totally away but it will lessen the more you prepare and the more confident you start to feel. Just practice, practice and then practice some more questions - the better you start doing - the less fear you will feel - I promise. And tell yourself every single day that you will pass this test because self talk and confidence goes a long way when you take the test.

When I 1st scheduled my test I swear it took me 2 weeks to unwind myself and bring me back to earth.

Yeah, I think the same, just keep practicing. I have heard that Kaplan is great. I also think Saunder's CD is great too, but nothing really prepares you completely for this experience. I took mine yesterday and I am more anxious now waiting for the results in California than I was before I took it. Soooo unfortunately the feeling and lack of sleep does not go away until you get that license in your hand I guess. Take confidence in knowing that 85% percent of US grads pass the first time. Good Luck!

i wrote a long response, but it was deleted as 'the server was too busy' glitch. anyway, i feel more prepared after studying saunders content/disc.

try suzanne's plan if you can view the threads in which she explains it or pm her. i took the hurst review. it was super-expensive but seemed to patch most of the holes in my knowledge. they boast a 99-100% pass rate and this is the program mayo hospital uses with their new grads with much success.

good luck to both of us....i am waiting to get my att and then i'll be nervous right there with you!

I am really nervous about my NCELX too, I take on the 16th. Some days I feel pretty confident and do well on my practice tests, and then there are other days that i just feel so dumb! I am using saunders book primarily, but i like the Kaplan book that explains how to choose different answers. One of my friends takes his test tomorrow so I hope to hear about it from him! Good luck to all those studying!

Thank you all for your kind words,

It's nice to know that I am not alone... Those of you who take it before me, pls let us all know about your success!

mom2michael, how long did you study/practice questions before taking the test?

My test was 1st scheduled for 30 days from graduation but because we had massive power outages, ice on the roads, etc...I had to reschedule for 2 weeks later - so I took it 45 days from graduation.

I did quetions on my days off - some days more than others - but I did well over 2000 before I took the test. Some days I was more gunho about the studying, others I wasn't.

I used Saunders, Lippincott, Kaplan and then I also took a Hurst review. There wasn't one thing that made it easier than others - it was a combination of them all I guess. Hurst helped with review, Kaplan helped with the questions I had never heard of (how to answer those) and the rest of the books helped me get into the "NCLEX" mode.
