Advice For Nursing School

U.S.A. Maryland

My plan was to complete Coppin State University's Nursing Program but I did not do very well when I was there. I left and attended Baltimore City Community College to complete the pre reqs and general requirements for Coppin's program. I have completed everthing and am taking my last scienceMy Baltimore City Community College GPA is 3.0. Now I am having a hard time with getting back in Coppin. Does any body have any suggestions? I ultimately want a BSN and not a ADN. From my inderstanding all nursing schools have a waiting list which I do not have a problem with. I just want a higher degree since I will be in school for another two years or so.

Specializes in Med-Surg/urology.

Is Coppin State your only choice? Because I know Morgan State has started a BSN program http://www.morgan.edu/School_of_Community_Health_and_Policy/Programs/Nursing.html

Coppin is not my only choice. I would have to complete more sciences for all of the others I looked at. Coppin is just my number one choice.

Have you spoken to anyone from the program yet?(at Coppin)

You should speak to an advisor at Coppin, they may recommend retaking courses to obtain a higher GPA. I had a 3.8 when I applied for an RN program at a local community college and didn't get accepted after 3 tries, I was accepted into an LPN program and graduated w/ a 4.0, it's all about your GPA. Sometimes it takes a longer route to become an RN, have you considered going to school to become an LPN?

And good luck, keep on trying!

Pick another school, its disorganized and they don't care, only about making money for the program that why they admit over 100 students. Stay where you are.

I know you ultimately want a BSN (so do I) but what's wrong with the ADN route? Why not stay at BCCC get your ADN (you can sit for NCLEX in 2yrs) and then finish out at a4yr state institution for your BSN? Perhaps you should sit down with the advisors at Coppin as well as your present institution to explore ALL of your options.
