Advice for Finding FNP Preceptor DC Metro Area

Hey, I am an FNP student in the DC Metro area that has been having difficulty finding a clinical location for my first semester of FNP clinicals this fall. I have been contacting NP's that are listed by the VA and MD NP associations and still have had no luck. Most either have agreements with specific schools or do not want students. I work in-patient, and while I do work with some fabulous NP's and MD's, I am not allowed to do clinicals in the in-patient setting per my school's policy. I am licensed in D.C., and Virginia, which is my compact license so I am also licensed in MD by default.

If anyone has any suggestions for how to go about finding a location or can recommend someone they have used I would be grateful.

I live in Southern Maryland which is a bit of a drive, but have had no difficulty finding a preceptor down here if you are willing to make the drive. I think with so many schools competing for clinical sites in the DC area it can be challenging so moving outside of the metro area might be a good bet. Does your school have a list of preceptors that they already have contracts with? That is a great place to start if they do. Good luck!

Unfortunately my school is based out of PA and does not help in locating preceptors if you are outside of PA. I have asked my dean since they have had some students from MD area before but was told I am on my own.

Have you tried the ENP Network? Also some state NP associations assist with this as well.

I have been utilizing the VA as well as MD state associations for NP with no success. I have not tried the ENP network, I will look into that, thanks!
