i have adventitious lung sounds. what could it mean?

Published

hey everybody,

i have a question about some breath sounds, and i'm asking for help as to what it could mean. i'm a senior nursing student, and have been having co-workers and instructors listen to me (all with differing opinions). thanks in advance for your replies :bowingpur

i'm a pretty healthy 22 year old female, but about a month ago i was sick (productive cough, sore throat, sinus and nasal congestion, no fever, dyspnea on exertion). it had cleared up, but then a week later i got the same symptoms, but slightly more severe. starting about a week and a half ago, i could feel rattling in my lower right lobe. on auscultation, i heard wheezing at the end of inspiration. it is high pitched, but changes pitches mid-wheeze. for the past two days, the wheezing is even louder, with the addition of a coorifice, low-pitched crackling sound in the same area on expiration. i have a non-productive cough and chest pain related to the frequent coughing. i don't have any perfusion issues, fever, or any other symptoms. i have a hx of exercised-induced asthma that resolved 10 years ago and the only med i'm on is oral contraceptives. i'm a little freaked out about having a PE since i have a direct family hx. any ideas?

i do have an appointment tomorrow morning, but i have a feeling i won't be sleeping tonight. my biggest fear is that she'll direct admit me (i've got a test, clinicals, 24 hours of work, and classes).

Maybe a cold? If you smoke, that could be the culprit. But I really dont think we are allowed to ask medical questions on here though.

only your pcp can diagnosis after listneing to your lungs; they will then decided need for further testing and treatment plan. cxr may be needed based on your hx. nursing school is enough of a stressor to trigger ei asthma after a cold.

..... my internet crystal ball can only forcast so much---getting staticm must be from all those tv stattions that have gone digital today.
