AZ APRN can't get a CO position!

Hi All,

I am so frustrated...I am a new grad APRN, FNP-C, in HOT Phoenix, Arizona, and I want to move to Colorado to get out of this awful heat.

My frustration? I can't get anyone in Colorado to call me back regarding an APRN applications...have applied to many, with ZERO callbacks...Whatever happened to everything they were saying to me in school, that they would be beating down my door to hire me as a new FNP???

Colorado SBN not being helpful either, I have spoken to them several times, bc they say "I must actually move to Colorado and get a Drivers License, and submit bills to them to prove I'm living there, IN ORDER TO GIVE ME A COLORADO APRN LICENSE"...WHAT??!! (They said I could go there and work under my RN until I get licensed, don't want to do that, I just want to get my APRN license)

So....I can't get a APRN job in CO without moving there first. BUT, if I move there first and get a rental and take out a lease to get the license, what happens if I find a job in another city? I really love Steamboat Springs...

Uggg, Sigh, any others??? LOL...I am so tired of this heat, I want to leave AZ and go to CO, but move there without a job lined up (and I am broke after school)??

I do have an FNP job lined up here in AZ to start in September, but I SO long to go to Colorado to live and work...any advice.....please? :banghead:

Maybe try a traveling position or work prn in Colorado

I would call the CO SBN back and hopefully get another person, just say you are out of state. Sounds like the person with whom you spoke possibly doesn't know whet they're talking about.

You might check out that site...I can't access cloud drives from work. If in fact they don't take non-residents, you might try applying to the VA as they are federal and don't have the same applicant requisites. In fact you may find that the VA is more lenient in prescribing authorities it grants to advanced practitioners vs the state in which that VA hospital resides.

Yes, you can. As both AZ and CO are members of the Nurse Licensure Compact, you can apply for an advanced practice license in CO using your AZ RN license. You can also find the following document using the link Non Sequitir provided in her or his post. If you review page 2 of the Advanced Practice Registration - Online Application Checklist you find the following:

If you hold a compact-multi state license in a compact state, select the application for Compact Certified Nurse Midwife, Compact Clinical Nurse Specialist, Compact Clinical Registered Compact Nurse Anesthetist or Nurse Practitioner from the Nursing – Out of State RN Advanced Practice & Prescriptive Authority Applications drop-down list.

CO not part of compact state. Why not just move to Flagstaff or rural parts of Northern Arizona where it is not as hot? Flagstaff is only 2 hours from Phoenix and just as expensive as colorado. Colorado is more expensive. There's skiing in Flagstaff. Have gone to Flagstaff a lot and it does not get as hot as PHX and TX. Not really logical to move to CO if you don't have a job offer and especially if your broke. Its not a very good financial move. i live in rural AZ as a FNP in northern AZ and I think its great. I'm around the 4 corners and I can go to the 3 other states surrounding AZ so easily. Also try out northern new mexico or just new mexico in general. NM is always hiring NPs

I am having the same issue in Tennessee trying to get a job in South Carolina.

The jobs in SC have called but when they find out my moving there is contingent on me getting a job first, they are immediately turned off.

I am in the process of getting my SC license, I hope that once its approved i will get more opportunities.

Someone told me that I should use someones address that I know that lives down there. That may be the only way.

Are you still interested in Colorado Take a look at the board of nursing. There are some restrictions by the board and most jobs require you to have fulfilled a few before they give you interviews.

I was an experienced nurse working in AZ before relocation and my first interview didn't come until I had a local address. Let me know how I can be of further help.

are you still in F. Defiance? I asked you a couple years back about IHS in Chinle. Just wanted to let you know after traveling multiple times in the Rez. I got a perm job here in Chinle. I'm really loving this 4 corners area.
