adult industry past? nursing a no?

Published

Hello guys! I've been browsing this forum for a minute (and hope that I've placed my question in the right topic, as I AM prenursing. I just want to get responses but may copy/paste to another area if none here). I'd also like to say that this is NOT a troll post. Im new to the forum and have never posted here until now.

I recently had something happen that inspired me to get into nursing. I never thought that I would want to do anything in the medical field, as science has never been my thing. But after a personal incident took place, I'm inspired to get inside and hopefully help to make a difference.

I'm close to 40 now, but in my early 20s, I did a 5 month (no joke) stint in the adult industry (film). I definitely didn't become a star from any of it. But now I'm of course concerned that this could hinder me from being hired OR if I am hired, I'm nervous that it'll cause me to be terminated.

I've read about moral turpitude and even posted on a lawyers forum to see if I could get some answers. Surprisingly, the few that responded said that I shouldn't mention it but I don't know. Yes, that was 12+ years ago but I guess I feel that I should be the one to say it and at least be honest than not and risk anything because of it.

I specifically want to work in hematology, preferably in a hospital setting. I have a meeting with an advisor from the first school I attended WAY back in the 90s (LOL). I have a lot of questions to ask him, but I also wanted to get some input from you guys, if at all.

I don't know if this site allows private messaging but if it is available and you'd like to message me, please do. But I'd really appreciate you guys input.

Thanks so much!

Just don't mention it. Those moral clauses have more to do with sleeping with your married, dying patient's husband. If you have no criminal record, you're good to go. Hopefully you didn't use your real name?

Thank you for responding, SL.

No I definitely did NOT use my real name. I also don't have a criminal record.

For every school that I am aware of, this would ONLY matter if it resulted in criminal charges. If you haven't tangled with the criminal justice system over this.... you should be fine. GOOD LUCK!

Thank you GOB (I dunno why your name made me LOL)!

Yea nothing illegal. Never got in trouble/arrested for anything. Never did anything illegal. I guess my concern is being in a situation where there's an off chance that SOMEBODY can reach back in their memory vault and think that I look familiar (I hear the I look familiar thing on occasion). By the time I'm done with school though, my hair will be different and I may wear my reading glasses more often. I'm also a lot smaller than I was back then.

Meh, even if they think you look familiar, so what? Someone I know once told me that a lady working in customs at the Reykjavic airport looked just like me.

The only issue I could see from something like this in one's past is if HR or a prospective manager was Googling you and they found your past films and had a personal problem with them. So long as everyone involved was an adult and everything was consensual, I don't see an issue.

True. And that is why I almost want to disclose. I spoke to someone at one of the schools I'd like to attend, and she said "you don't need to include that on your application. We just want to see your efforts with prereqs and service."

So we'll see.

I would NOT disclose this. You don't want to give people a reason to choose to reject you from the start. (All of us here think it's a non-issue but the hiring manager or admissions people might be prudish.)

Have you tried Googling yourself to see if anything comes up related to your adult film industry past? You said you didn't use your real name.

Yea it's there if I google. I def didn't use my real name but it's been associated with my name before.

I wouldn't bring it up. Let the past be the past.

Thank you. I'm a newbie to the board and appreciate you guys' insight on everything. I'll definitely keep you guys posted.

Or sleeping with the cardiac surgery fellow at work. That sort of thing.
