Hi all!
I'm curious if anyone has any experience with pediatric/adolescent psychiatric inpatient units in Chicago. I've done clinical rotations at a fabulous, solely behavioral health hospital where you could tell everyone really respects and loves the field. On the other hand, I've heard horror stories about other psychiatric units where patients are treated poorly and staff doesn't really have their hearts in the psych world. I'd love to avoid these kinds of hospitals when looking for a job, if possible!
TLDR: What are good quality adolescent inpatient psych units in Chicago? What are facilities that I should stay away from?
Thanks in advance!

Congratulations on deciding on one of the most challenging and rewarding specialties! I have absolutely loved working with my adolescent psych patients, and although I don't know about Chicago, I think the application process should be the same wherever you go, and whichever speciality you work. What is your general impression when you walk on the unit? What do the managers/interviewers say about their unit? How responsive are the patients to the staff and vice versa. Ask to see a schedule and how the days are run. Are the adolescents allowed to stay in bed all day, or are they encouraged to participate in groups?
Good luck!
Thanks so much, Heylove! This population has really stolen my heart, and I'm so excited to pursue a career working with them. Thank you for that excellent advice! I will begin the application process soon, and that will all definitely be helpful to keep in mind will interviewing!

I've worked in various settings with both adults and adolescents. Lurie Children's Hospital has an inpatient psych unit that is definitely top notch. I'd check them out.
That is definitely on my list of hospitals to check out, bellieboo! Thanks for the suggestion!
