Admission Office. Help!

Hello everybody. So I applied for the nursing program at University of Ottawa. I applied to both collaborative program and the main site. I got accepted to the collab program in march but not the main site. From my understanding, I thought that universities also take into consideration your mid term marks of 2nd semester. This is not the case with u of o apparently... they told me the last person they accepted was in march and they had an 86 percent while I had an 85 percent. I now have an 88 percent (due to 2nd semester mid term marks) which makes me qualified to be accepted to the program. Theyre telling me that when they accepted the last person in march, the program became full. And they will not start accepting others as people start to decline the nursing offer. It just confuses me how other universities are accepting people based on their 2nd semester mid term marks as well but u of o nursing is not??*

I just dont know what I should do, and if they are allowed to do that?

The university can do whatever they want. There is no "law" about what marks they have to consider or any other aspect of their admissions process.

But if they tell the students who are applying for their program to receive a certain average and an acceptance will be guaranteed, shouldnt they stick to their word?

Because if the admission average is an 86 then they should accept anyone with an 86 or higher

There will other criteria that will have to be met I would assume.Tthey can only take so many students. They will not guarantee acceptance just based on your average. Just because you have an 86 doesn't mean you will automatically get in. Schools can make their own decisions regrading admissions.

Universities only consider your second semester mid term marks after you have received a conditional offer, they want to make sure you maintain your average or higher. The program fills up very quickly, so if you were rejected because you were below the cut off range at that time, then it doesn't matter if your average increased over the next couple of months, the program is full! It is important to have a high average when you apply for any nursing program. If you are set on attending University of Ottawa, then try applying for the 2015 start year, at least you will have a higher average before application deadlines and a better chance of being accepted. Good luck.

Did you hear back from UofO? I'm in the collaborative program at the woodroffe campus. The school also will only accept you into one of the programs at a time, in your order of presence. If you had the collab program listed as your first choice than that is what you would be accepted to an you would not get accepted into the main campus unless you turned down your spot in the collab.

The administration at UofO is terrible, but once you're in you don't really deal too much with them. ;)
