What do an acute care NPs do? How different is their role from an educator on a critical care floor, and how are the hours?

As nurse practitioners, those trained in acute care are licensed providers trained in the management of acute and critical care disorders seen in the adolescent population all the way to the older adults. ACNP's practice in a variety of settings and specialties from in-patient units of hospitals, ICU's and ED's, to specialty clinics in Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery, Pulmonary Medicine, Neurology and Neurosurgery, Organ Transplants, etc.

An educator in a critical care unit, as the name implies, is a nurse responsible for meeting the educational needs of nursing staff in terms of critical care nursing practice. This role can be performed by a CNS or a BSN prepared nurse with years of critical care experience.
