Actual West Coast University California student input needed!!

Published

This is for Actual West Coast University Students. Those who are currently in the program and those who have graduate.

******NOT opinion givers, school bashers and folks who never attended the school.*****

Many future potential students are in need of real actual students of WCU to talk about the school. We hear enough of the bashers who never attended and nurses who hire students and say they won't hire a WCU student because they don't believe WCU is a good school, students are not capable and can't do the job coming out of the program and the cost is too much and they are not reputable enough and their pass rate is not a 90% or above.

How about hearing from actual nurses who have graduated from WCU and students who currently attend.

What is your real thoughts on the school, How is the education, what is the real?????

What are the good things about WCU and how have they contributed to your nursing career?

AGAIN! This is for REAL WCU Students!

We would appreciate WCU Students who can help us in giving us the real and not just opinions. If you are not a student already, a graduate or plan to attend, please do not Reply! The respect would really be appreciated.

Thank you so much!!!!

Again, I can't understand why the opinion of a nurse manager (who is in a hiring position) who says WCU students are weak on skills is not a legitimate opinion. I'd say it's important for potential students to know what potential employers think of the school.

People who give negative reviews of the school are not haters.

Why don't you ask some area and regional employers what they think of the school? That information is useful too.

I am asking for actual students. Not all employers are doing what you are doing. You made it clear you don't hire individuals who go to WCU.

How would you know who is weak when you never gave them a chance to work? Not all students will be weak just because they went to a school you don't like.

They can't even go to actual clinicals without be strong on their skills. They get tested regularly and have to go through simulation to prove they are able to do their skills competently. I watched them do it. I have worked around nurses for years. I have seen some come from those High Reputation schools and can't even insert an NG tube nor can properly insert a butterfly into a vein. So many book smart Nurses and can't do skills came from those big time state universities. Every school has students who graduated and can't take vitals correctly.

So Again! I prefer to hear from the students and graduates who have their careers. One employer will who chooses not to hire certain students out of thousands of other employers is not convincing to the point someone will look bad at a school.

That's a bad sign if you aren't hearing from people ;). I looked at the school, was very close to enrolling when they had their ADN program. Ultimately I chose elsewhere, but student loans are no joke.

I think that when you (not you, you, but the collective you) post in a public forum you need to understand that you (again not you, you, the collective you) will get responses from all sides of an issue.

Members are free to respond to all forums. I think it is up to the OP to ignore the comments that they do not find...useful.

There is much debate about these for profit schools and online schools with the curriculum. An increasing number of states are not accepting this education from another state for licensure. It is an issue of concurrent clinical. A nationally accredited school is your safest bet where nursing schools are involved. It does appear that WGU is CCNE accredited which is a plus for this school.

EVERY manager has past experience with certain schools and the caliber of graduates. Yes, there are graduates from every program that have uncertain skills, however, certain schools have a higher percentage of them.

These for profit schools charge enormous tuition/school fees. One needs to be careful when taking on large student debt. You cannot file bankruptcy against student loans. IN some states if you default they suspend your nursing license.

As with anything in life....Praemonitus praemunitus or forewarned is forearmed

I attend the school currently and I love it! I did my pre reqs there and am 10 months away from graduating. The best part is the terms go by fast and they lay out your school schedule from the beginning to the end! The classes can be hard but it all depends on you. The only thing I don't like is that classes are only offered certain times so you only have a few choices but it's not a big deal. There will always be ****** teachers but there is also a ton of great teachers! I love my school and am a total advocate. What campus are you looking into?

Thats cool! I was looking at the LA Campus. Thats where I went for the info session.

Well I hope you decide on it. I love it. I go to the Ontario campus 8)

Just to clarify, WGU is Western Governors' University and I'm pretty sure that one is non-profit. I don't think they offer prelicensure education, but do offer RN-BSN and MSN online programs.

The OP is referring to West Coast University in California, which is for-profit, expensive, and the subject of much controversy here on AN.

Carry on. :)

Actually WGU does offer the BSN Pre-licensing program. I am working with an Enrollment Advisor there too. So yes they do offer the program as well. You are in cohorts and the class portions are done online while the clinicals are at hospitals such as Cedar Sinai and Huntington Memorial.
