Active duty medic just moved to West Point, needs advice on local RN programs

Published

Ok, I'm a medic in the Army and have about 3 years left. I want to get into a 2 year RN program now that I'm somewhere stable and won't be deploying all the time, eventually want BSN but I don't think that's feasible right now. I've seen two schools so far with RN programs, SUNY Rockland and SUNY Orange. Since I'm working during the day till 4:30 PM, I need something at night and/or weekends. I'm wondering if that's even possible, I'm very new to the area and was wondering if anyone knew about these programs or of any others that I missed and how they're programs are. Any info at all would be great, thanks!---Jen

SUNY orange has an evening program. There are pre-reqs, so you should look into and get started ASAP. www.sunyorange.edu Good luck!!

The evening programs at all the community colleges take about 40 students and get anywhere from 200+ applications (I went to a few information sessions in the past couple weeks), SUNY Orange has a very good program but the waiting list is ridiculous. Rockland is no longer accepting applications for the fall and won't accept applications for the spring until October 15th, however, as of right now they have a 3 semester wait. Dutchess is only taking Dutchess county residents and Westchester is the same situation as Rockland and Orange with the waiting. I would start up on my pre-reqs now so you can get as much done as possible while waiting, best of luck.
