how accurately does KAPLAN predict success?

Published

Hello all-

Like you, I recently graduated and am studying for NCLEX. I took the KAPLAN review and have been using that as my main review/study/practice tool. On all of my Q-bank and Trainers, I score between the low 60's and mid 70's. This is freaking me out, and I'm getting more and more anxiety-ridden every day. How bad/good are these scores on KAPLAN? Does anybody know? I'm taking NCLEX in about two weeks, so if I need to be dramatically changing my strategies, I need to start now. Any suggestions or insight???

Thanks...

As with all predictor tests, it can go either way. The NCLEX is known for being unpredictable. One should gauge their own readiness and not take the results of predictor tests to be set in stone. Good luck.

I'm just like you, I want to know how Kaplan Rates really are? I'm going for my 4th time, ya I know it sucks, I have been doing studying on my own, but not getting anywhere, first test 99 questions, second 88, third 147, I just don't know anymore and really hopeing that Kaplan can give me the edge I need, so anyway

What does anyone think of Kaplan and their results, is their prediction correct?

I heard that Kaplan's Q's are 3x harder than NCLEX Q's so it really prepares you for the exam. I think the goal of the Q banks & Q trainers are to get >65%.

Soon2Be, I heard the same thing.

I think if you are scoring in the 60s and 70s, you are doing great! Keep it up!

I got a 63 on q trainer six last week, 69 on qtrainer 7 this week. 74% on my diagnostic, 66% on my readiness and 65% on my qbanks... Ive taken 100%. I was considered an extremely strong student...but I was worried about my 63% on qtrainer 6. I emailed my rep, he said my percentages are extremely strong. Also, our teacher said that Kaplan had changed their rec % on April 1st, Kaplan q's got harder because NCLEX pass bar went up by 10 logits in difficulty (whatever that means) sooo she said that you are making a very strong showing with 60% on readiness. She also said if you came in at 60% on the diagnostic, you had an extremely strong content knowledge. For those of you who dont want to take the actual kaplan class, the strategies book was excellent. I got it early in my last semester and it helped me a lot even with my coursework, and a LOT LOT with my ATIs. The decision tree is excellent and makes a lot of sense. Our instructor added bits like.. for "who do you see first" questions.. ask yourself.. stable vs unstable... expected for diagnosis vs unexpected... ABCs..... for questions like.. who is at greatest risk... use your grease board to to make little pluses for each risk factor in an answer.. and the one with the most risk factors is your answer... assess before you implement.. ask yourself the outcomes of each answer.... first do no harm.... delegation question..only delegate unchanging tasks with expected outcomes.. No one but the RN can assess, evaluate, or do teaching..... After that class I came out wondering what I ever did as a LPN. I take boards in 15 hours... Ill post pass/fail.. and those following can judge their strength by my percentages in Kaplan vs theirs. Good luck to all. Also... I love study stacks for NCLEX review.. I took all my wrong answers from Kaplan and figured out why I got them wrong and made flash cards. one last note.. if you go back to review the diagnostic in Kaplan... the review pages have "needed info" that will give you the information you needed to answer the question correctly. This was helpful for content review.

I think that a score of 65% is very good but they must reflect a variety of questions and not only Kaplan's. Also the score must be obtained within the range of 1 min. per question. I think these make the prediction more true.

I have taken the nclex twice...failed got 85 on the first test, all 265 on the second. I thought the Nclex questions were harder than Kaplans and I was predicted to pass according to Kaplan but I haven't yet. I am sitting for my third time June 30th. Reading Saunders

According to PVT I passed.... I did a lot of review with my Saunders CD, Analysis level questions.. there are 1986 or something... I will pray for your next passing score.... there but for the Grace of God go I. Best wishes!
