for who saw my post about being slow. question for you charge nurses. wouldn't you rather have a the aides take their time with the residents, giving them the best quality care as possible? and two how many times have you had found residents or clients with skin tears, or scatches because they were being rush threw cares? or injuries ?

Personally I would rather see descent ratios! I have seen the probelms with folks being too slow or too fast, and the underlying factor was typically poor ratios!
How can a person take time and stop a skin tear when another pt is crawling out of bed and half way out before they can respond? To me that isn't a too fast too slow thing more that's life and the need for more people there to respond.
Now, if someone is too slow typically...then I usually looked into why. Is it that there is a part of the task that isn't fully understood, or is a persons confidence down, or other things I may help with :). There are many reasons for people taking it slow..heck I have done that on occasion when I don't feel all that 'awake and peppy' and I have a person with 20 meds to pass...I would rather take my time and ensure I am doing things right!
Now too fast...that typically is a larger problem. Not enough staff to get all tasks done in orderly fashion, or a person may be missing steps, or this person is just rushing forgetting about the importance of taking some rational time to do a task. Or like in most cases...a person rushing because there is way too much on their plate by unrealistic expectations from pts (this isn't Mc Donalds pts!).
Either way...proper staffing would help to quell all of these! And it is something I believe we all advocate for!
