Hello, all! I am about to start my CNA training this coming Thursday, and I am very excited! I am currently a music teacher who is considering a switch to nursing. I was very excited about this idea over the holidays, but now I am feeling a little unsure. It is difficult to leave something familiar, even if you are not that happy with it.
ANYWAY, I am excited to begin CNA training because I think it will give me a more realistic idea of what it would be like to work as a nurse. I know CNA duties are different from LPN and RN duties, but at least I will get into a healthcare situation and see it from the inside! I am hoping that this will help me to make up my mind between staying in teaching and going for nursing. If I go for it, I plan to work as a CNA during nursing school to gain experience.
Just wanted to share in case anyone has read some of my previous posts! Any advice for someone who is about to begin training?

I'm a former elementary teacher- things went sour for me so I sought a "new field". My advice is to take it with the right attitude and stay motivated. What I mean is the job duties are not easy- they may seem easy until you actually have to do them on a patient/client. Realize that your job status is not sealed or solid unless you get into an assisted living facilty, LTC, or work as a hospital aide. For example, working for home health agencies requires understanding the flexible need/functioning of in-home care. I work for 2 homehealth agencies and am considering 2 more. Lastly, take your studies, exams, and skills/clinicals seriously because no one likes to fail either one of their CNA exams. Finally, online utube videos helped me to pass my skills exam the first time! Just type in "need help with CNA skills training on videos". I truly wish you the very best!!!

Remember to take one day at a time.. No matter what. There is so much to do and it will feel like you never have enough 'energy' but be sure to just take it slow and enjoy it. It's school and they are there to grill you and remind you that it won't be so easy in the real field, but don't lose sight of what is important.
Thank you, Tamimac and viciousminty! I am looking forward to being a student. I will definitely check out the helpful youtube videos!
