About to graduate with LPN... really want to be a RN

Published

I know people are probably really tired of hearing about these posts but please bare with me.

I have a horrible college GPA (2.520) which is why I decided to take the LPN route since it seems to be easier to get into. I got in and I am about to graduate. I have completely turned my academic life around and have passed with flying colors in my accelerated program. I really want to be a RN but I fear now that I wont have the opportunity to be since my GPA is SO low. I only have 3 prerequisites to take to qualify for the ADN program and about 6 for a BSN.

Is there any hope? Should I just remain a LPN? I have a dream of working in PICU and know that I cannot do that as an LPN. Help???

Look into LPN to RN programs. If you do not fit minimum requirements, inquire about repeating courses. If this does not work, continue to look until you find a program that will take you. Consider relocating temporarily for such a program.

Hi Samantha,

You were looking for a BSN program. You have your LPN at Nightingale you can complete your BSN in as little as 5 semesters. They do have an advanced placement option. Folks talk about cost, but it is about the same as going to any University to get a 4-year degree. As far as their accreditation, it is still intact and they have come a long way to improve their NCLEX pass rates as they have benn taken OFF the warning status that someone previously mentioned. I wish you well.
