I finished the TCC nursing program last October, graduated in December. Since then, I have been applying left and right to jobs all over Hampton Roads, with no luck. Jobs are plentiful, IF you are an experienced RN...which makes things a little difficult for us new grads. I finally got the call today with an offer for employment, which I was all too happy to accept. Don't get picky. There will be time later in your career to pick and choose the specialty you want. Just get your foot in the door anywhere you can. It's not settling, it's a paycheck. I got a job through friends who ended up working for a nurse manager who doubled as a clinical instructor for TCC. NEVER EVER burn your bridges. No matter how tough an instructor might be, no matter how unfair you think they are (not that mine was), you are the inexperienced one who will need a leg up, and they are the ones with experience and influence. Just get through school with a grin and a smile, keep your head down and work hard, you never know who will be watching, and waiting to see if you would make a good potential employee. There is hope, you WILL get a job eventually!!! Best wishes and GOOD LUCK!!!!

I agree don't burn your bridges and don't be picky. I had a horrible preceptorship, but I gritted my teeth & smiled, and sure nuff, that's where I was hired, same unit. Partly because I did my preceptorship there. My horrible preceptor had left and I really like my job, and I'm grateful every day to have a job in this economy. Once you get a year of experience finding jobs will be easier, and who knows what could happen in nursing, jobs may be more plentiful in the future.
