A few questions about the Skills portion of the CNA test??

Hello I have a few questions, I feel like I know both the skills and book work ok but I test sat and I am sorta freaking out about the small stuff I guess. So I have a few ?'s if anyone could answer them and are 100% sure their right that would be wonderful and greatly appreciated =)!! Also anyone who has taken it at Wake tech let me know how your test went and how was your evaluator ?? THANKS

On the Bedpan skill, after you pour "urine" into the toilet would you put water into a cup and then pour that into the bedpan or would you get water in the bedpan then just wash it and pour it into the commode? I am not sure if that would contaminate the sink. Also what is the bath blanket used for? To put the bath pad under them do you have to roll them on their side then put the rolled edge under them roll them the other way and pull them back? Then its under them or can you just put it under them whenever you put the bedpan under whenever their hips are raised?

On the Denture skill, You use 2 towels?... 1 for the sink and 1 to lay the stuff on ??

Dresses Client, Do you have to put non-skid shoes on them?

To check water temp. do you really use a thermometer or do you use your wrist?

With skills that involve laundry where do you put the dirty stuff like as you use it..?

You would sit the clean stuff on the end table?

Bed bath skill, Does it matter which way you wash the arm ? like down toward the hand? Would it go hand, then arm, and lastly underarm? Also when do you put the gloves on with the skill? the very beginning

What all do I need for making and occupied bed? Fitted sheet, top sheet, matress pad, pillow case, gloves Comforter or draw sheet? Is that all ? Could you tell me how to put the top sheet and comforter on?

Nailcare: Where would you lay the orange stick and emery board right after use?

FootCare, Do you have to put clean socks on?

Both Denture Care and mouth Care: where Do I lay the tooth brush after I have brushed their teeth, and toothpaste?

Hi, when you look at the skills review book there is a critical step highlighted for each skill. This is the part that you can not get wrong. If you do, its a fail. Thats what I would focus on. Also, I dont know if you took a review class, but practicing over and over really helps. I think there are some videos on Youtube for skills as well. Good luck with your test.

Look at the skills book and memorize just what is listed. I know it seems weird, but the test is not real life, they just want to see you know the skill. Don't question it beyond that; if it is not on the checklist, you will not be counted for/against something. By the way, the highlighted step is critical, but if you don't do enough of the rest of the checklist correctly, you could still fail. Good luck to you, I took mine last month at Wake Tech, and it wasn't that bad. A word of advice I would always hear from one of the instructers...You do not have to raise the head of the bed for any skill other than bedpan. He failed lots of people for feeding in bed that raised the head of the bed because if you do that for other skills, you must be at a certain angle for it to count and the student would not raise it high enough. For feeding, etc. just ask the patient to sit up.

If you do extra things, like use more towels than needed, etc, they can't fail you for it. I just took and passed mine this past Monday. As far as where to put the toothbrush and toothpaste, I wrapped both of them in a paper towel and laid them to the side. With bedpan, we just ran water straight out of the sink but the instructor told us to use a cup if the sink is small. Emery board and orange stick go in the trash. No socks for footcare. You ONLY do whats listed in the skill handbook.
