anyone have any NIGHTMARE clinical stories? lol. I love clinical so far and I have had really great patients. Im first semester and have only have three clinical days, but today I had a pychotic patient that gave her RN he11. Would NOT let her do anything with her. When I went yesterday to get all my pre-clinical work the RN kept telling me i HAD to switch patients, that there was no way I would remain in school after spending a day with this patient. Well of course I didnt change patients because I want to experience everything possible while Im in school. I was a nervous wreck all night and terrified to go to clinical this morning.... well this "awful" patient ended up being a wonderful experience.
Yes, she had psychological problems, she refused all of her injections because she was sure that they were going to kill her (her blood sugar was off the chart high but she refused insulin all night the night befre and all morning today) Well she wouldnt ler her new morning nurse touch her, no BP, no temp, no accucheck zip zero nothing. Then I get there and introduce myself and she is an absolute DREAM. She had no problem with me giving her meds, doing vitals, talking to her etc. I went in with a positive attitude and told myself that one way or another we were going to be BFFs before I left lol. Apparently that positive attitude had an affect on her. She wasnt 100% trusting of me at first but by the end of the day she was taking her insulin and laughing and joking around with me. No tears, no screaming etc. If made me feel like I was doing something right which is a really good feeling this early on.
Im still waiting on my nightmare of a day, I know its coming..... Im waiting :)
What are your really bad clinical stories>? I would love to hear them, they help me to mentally prepare for when I have my turn

well lets see....my one clinical patient (at 6:45 am) yelled at me so loud to get her out of bed to pee I got nervous and damn near dropped her trying to get her to the BSC - she was 100 lbs - so I'm twice her size but the minute I tried to help she just went dead weight on me...
then there was the week where my pt kept mistaking the floor and the toilet - peed ALL over his bathroom (and Gentomycin pee smells worse than the cat box!), then proceeded to sh!t all over his room - down the bed rail, his legs, gown, IN HIS SOCKS!!! - finally get him cleaned up and in the chair, and I'm packing up his stuff (he was getting transferred to a rehab facility) and couldn't understand why the room still stunk...walked by. looked down and he hit the trash can! Apparently he can't aim with his member, but stick his ass out there and wham!
LOL oh man I love these stories. I know that at the time youw ere miserable but I hope that now you can laugh about it. I havent had a bad pooper yet (ill get my turn dont worry)
oh I started laughing the minute I walked out of the hospital...because if I didn't I'd just cry...
oh and my patient this past week tested positive for C-Diff - an hour before I was supposed to go home!!! You bet I boiled myself and my scrubs when I got home!
