A & P 2 and Nursing I at the same time, am I that CRAZY?????

Published

Hi, Everybody. I need some advice. PLEASE HELP. Im a 23 year mother of 3 year old twins. I plan on taking Anatomy and Physiology 2 along with Nursing I, starting in Jan.2005. Is this impossible??? Yes, I am a mother of 3 year old twins, but I have the fortune to not have to work, although I WILL BE BROKE. I have a WONDERFUL support system. Many students at my school have been telling me Im going to fail, and I need to just take them separate. At my school A & P 2 must be done before Nursing I or you can take it at the same time. Basically, with my hard work, dedication, not having to work, and excellent support system is this possible. I really want to do this, I hate to rush it but sometimes I feel like you gotta do what you gotta do even though I know I will be VERY VERY VERY VERY STRESSED!!!!

It can be done, Crystal ... the typical courseload at my school is A&P 1 and nursing I during the first semester, then A&P II, nursing II and micro during the second semester. It's killer - no doubt about it - but it can be done.

Good luck to you. :)

You might have to give up any perfectionist tendencies. If you can deal with the possibility of making a C in one or both of the courses, then you should be okay. (You probably know this already, but a "C" in a nursing course is not earned by getting an average of 70-79% of the points, the scale is usually skewed so that a "C" is only as low as 77.5-82 in my program, for instance.) It varies by program. I personally found A&P 2 easier to study than A&P I (you can make flash cards and make other memory aids or phrases at home, versus spending hours in open lab looking at bones.)

I'm in my first semester of nursing school, and nursing courses are all I'm taking. But I also work full time, and it is very stressful. I know of a girl who is taking micro along with everything I'm taking, and who works on the weekends. I don't know how she does it, but she does have good results to show for it.

I guess anything is possible, so good luck and keep us posted.

Yea, that is a pretty common load at my school. Next semester I will have to take AP2 and my Intro to Nursing class as well. I don't see it as being a problem, just a huge commitment of time and mental resources. Best of wishes to you.

Oh yes, it can be done! I am taking Nursing I right now and I don't find it a very difficult class, especially compared to A&P. Last quarter I took A&P II and MIcro at the same time, now that was a stretch!!!! (and I had a newborn and a 18 month old!)

Just study hard, you can do it!

Eh, it's not too hard. I've been doing A&PI since July, and also taking Nursing I since August. I just finished up A&PI and will be starting A&PII next week.

What was REALLY a killer was the first three weeks of nursing school, I was finishing up Microbiology in addition to A&P and Nursing. I don't recommend that. :uhoh3:

I got a B in A&PI and have a solid A in Nursing. Got a B in Micro, too.

At my school you have to take those two classes at the same time. We all survived!! (And half of us were taking chem and micro along with those classes...I took 19 hours that semester and had 3 labs.:chair: ) I'ts not too bad once you start, but I know it just sounds scary right now. Just go ahead and take them both! Good luck with all your classes!!:)

I don't even think we are allowed to take those together at my school. Sounds crazy to me. I work part-time though, so I can't imagine it. Nursing classes aren't something I'd be comfortable in just barely passing. I know I couldn't handle it, mainly because I am not disciplined enough to.

Go talk to an advisor at school, just make sure they are a nursing advisor! My school is always making us take surveys to gather data on us like how many hours we work, if we have kids, and what other classes we are taking. I think this gives them an idea of how much we can handle.

I took A&P2 & Intro. to Nursing together. I also worked p/t am a Mom of a (2yo at the time) and am married. You mentioned, you're a mom of 3yo twins. Are you a single mom? This would make your situation very different from mine. Also, it depends on the type of student you are. If you require lots and lots of study time to memorize concepts, it will take longer. If you are a quick study, it will make it easier.

A lot depends on you, but it is definitely doable. I wish you the best. By the way, the one bright spot of doing them is together is that if you do A&P2 with the nursing, at least you don't have to worry about a B or C ruining your chances of getting accepted into nursing.

I took A&P online..and it was much easier that way, for me at least. If you like online classes, that might be something to check into.

I am currently taking micro (which I think is MUCH harder than A&P) along with nursing, and doing fine (A's in both), as well as working 3 nights a week and having two kids. We usually find a way to do what we need to do :) You'll do fine so long as you are organized, disciplined, and dedicated. Gotta have those :)

Crystal, Only a few students in my Class are only taking "Nursing" - most are taking at least 1 other course and several are taking a full-load. It just depends on how well you can divide up your time. I have 3 children and I'd say at least half of my classmates are also Mom's - some even manage to hold down part-time jobs while doing this.

In the Words of Every Nurse I Know - Nursing School is "HARD" - there's just no other way to put it. Even the Instructor's will tell you - until you graduate - you belong to them. That's the reason I waited until my boys were all in school - for me, it's just easier this way. Out of the 40 we started with, we've already lost 6 students - and we have 6 weeks left of the first semester. From what I heard - only 1 left because of grades, the rest decided either it just wasn't for them or they didn't want to spend all their free time studying (which you have to do to keep up). If it's really something you want to do, you'll get through it somehow. Just Have Faith!!!
