The assistant DON asked you to lie?!?! That's insane. I say go higher up for sure, don't risk your license for someone else's ridiculous request for you to lie. Not worth it at ALL. Good luck, be honest.

Regardless of who asks you to lie on a nurses' note, DON'T do it: it's your license on the line if you do. If you already did it, then you better get it straightened out ASAP.
Definitely report this to the higher ups in the food chain and talk to a lawyer for your own protection.

OK, let's forget about the fact that your license could be pulled leaving you out of a job (and if you are like this rest of us in debt for a degree you can now never use) and the fact that you can be prosecuted for falsifying a legal document.
Ask your self a question, what kind of person would even consider lieing for someone? I don't know about you but in my book lieing isn't something that I like to do. If you don't lie as a normal practice, why even think about it in this situation?

also, if you refuse to lie and/or if you do report the behavior, expect to be retaliated against.get a employment lawyer, one that represents the employee, not the employer.if you are lucky your don may let your refusal go and nothing will come of it.
if you do report this, do not only report to the bon, you need to find out what agency regulates the type of facility you are working in. if it is a nursing home, here is a link to the various state agencies that do the surveys and are supposed to enforce laws that regulate nursing homes.

good luck, you've just been put into a horrible position many other nurses have been in before you and probably after you.feel free to pm me if you feel the need.

First of all you said Assistant DON. Follow your facility's chain of command and go to the DON. Make sure when you meet with the DON that you tell the facts only, not your opinion or feelings.
Document everything for your own records - exclude the patients name - because that would be a breach of confidentially.
You can also go to the in house risk management person (if you have one).
Your nursing board or professional association might be able to help give you advise as well.
If no results or if you are concerned about your job then I would consult an independent lawyer. But remember right now based on what you've told us - it's your word against the ADON. So go about this carefully and be smart.
By this I mean - cover your butt and keep your mouth shut - don't gossip about the ADON to your co workers and don't tell them your plan. It will get back to administration and you'll look bad and the ADON might try to use it against you.
Hello everyone and thanks for the feed back on my question last year. Heres the update i went to the d.o.n. And to the attorney generals office and the board of nursing. The adon was escorted out of the building the d.o.n. Was fired i didnt go back to work there and the place is shut down. Thanks everyone for your imput and no we do not have to go down to other peoples level i take pride in my work and my life style.
