Hey Fellow Nurses,
I am not a wound care nurse, but I have a basic understanding of wound care (worked ER, surgical unit, etc.)
My father recently had a partial toe amputation and the doc wanted him to have home health 3x/week for a nurse to change the dressing and monitor it. Unfortunately home health is not covered by his insurance.
What time of dressings would you recommend to dress his foot? The doc said he's not pleased with the depth of the wound and is considering having to go back and take more tissue. We'd like to avoid this, so I'm trying to figure out the best way to dress it for him. He's a diabetic with no feeling left around the site so he can't really feel if its uncomfortable and possibly getting an infection.
What is a great dressing/packing to help with wound healing, promote healthy tissue and ward against infection? Do you recommend any ointments?
Thanks so much!
