how much experience before I got my WOCN cert?

So I'm just coming up on my one year mark as an RN. I work on a busy surgical floor, where I see lots of wounds, fistulas, and ostomies etc. I know I eventually want to be a WOC nurse. I have looked into programs and once I get my year of acute care experience, I will have fulfilled the pre-admission requirements. What I'm wondering is, is it smart to only get one year of med/surg experience before trying to specialize? I definitely want to be marketable once I get my certification, but I also don't really want to toil away on a med/surg floor if I don't have to. Any recommendations/thoughts?
