working in a spanish country

hi, just wondered whether anybody had any information on working either in the canary islands or in spain. Where do you find out about jobs. there is absoluytely nothing coming up on the internet. Questions are the jobs in private sector or public, do you neeed to be 100%fluent in spanish. What sort of pay scales do they have etc. Any advice greatly appreciated.

I can tell you that in Spain, the law says that an American must have lived continuously in Spain for 10 years. The only document accepted to prove this (as of 1998 - don't know if it's changed) is a police report where the dates of your work and residence permit appear. Then it takes around 2 - 3 years for the administration to notify you of their decision. If you marry someone Spanish, I think it's "only" five years.

It's getting harder and harder to get into Europe to work, but here in Spain they have occasional periods where "illegal immigrants" can apply for papers without too much hassle.

As long as spanish visa maybe dificult, one way is looking for a job or a carrier; though working as nurse suposse you must convalidate your carrier and there is one important problem you will need about two or three years to learn the language, do not worry, you speak english, there are many offers to work in the cost, moreover English language is very important in commerce and EDUCATION; in your case, I would firstly look for a contact with the embasy, on this way you can access to many information; after that I would go to many multinational firms, that is firms that work in USA and Spain, but always looking for a job with official contrat, and always contrasting your contract inmformation with the information you will recieve in the USA or Spanish embassy.

It is what I think, of course you must contrast the information I have written with information in the embassy too, maybe I can be wrong.

Kind regards.

Does anyone know how long it takes for an american to gain EU status, work visa, etc.?

I have seen your profile, you are graduated as bachelor, I do not think you will need more curriculum; a job is a job; to talk with the Consul can you be represented by other people (solicitor) and avoid not to miss a good opportunity?; Ireland is a pretty country, you can wait for the consul appointment doing other things; you must decide, you know better than anybody, what can be your possibilities, I am sure you will do a great career.:) :) :):) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

One choice can be very important in all life, even more than a good career.

thanks for your advice alanpe, hope I made the right decision:p

Hi there! Nice to hear from you! I'm a female RN outside of Chicago, Illinois in the US. I have been a nurse for 12 years. I have worked in such areas as Telemetry, Intensive Care, Physicial Rehabilitation, Outpatient Surgery, & Case Management. I am currently working on my Masters in Nursing. I heard about allnurses.com through one of my courses in which we discuss nursing issues at home & abroad. I was asked by my instructor to connect with an international email partner to discuss nursing interests, concerns, questions, issues, etc.. I did have a little bit of information to ask you about if you wish to answer: your name? are your male or female? where do you live in Spain? your nursing education? what area of nursing do you currently work in? what are your interests in nursing? what are your interests outside of nursing? and anything else you would like to share??? Hope to hear back from you? Enjoy your day :) TMW
