Is there anyone who can fill me in on RN jobs in France. I prefer the city hospiitals, I work in ICU currently. I have many years exp in Med Surg also. Would like to hear from someone. If you know about pay scale and such include that also. Thanks, bambi007;)

yes I did have them translated but you know sometimes what you said is true its not what you know nowadays its who you know. thank you but my problem is this now. i work with somebody in very high places i don't think they would even consider recommending me i've been with them for about 13 years now .

Hi guys,

I'm an americaine licensed RN in CA and been living in Paris since February 2008. I'm actually going through the french requirements to get my licence here in France and is willing to go back to school to obtain it. I have applied for a nursing school here (IFSI) and I have an written exam in 2 weeks f (culture generale domaine sanitaire et sociale). Has any foreigners like myself has taken these entrance exam and can give me some info? Will my exam be exactly the same as with a french citizens taking it? Is it graded exactly the same as they would for a french native? Any tips at all? The subject is so broad and I have no idea what topics I must concentrate on. Any help is appreciated.

And for those that have questions about how to apply to a nursing school here and the requirements, feel free to ask me.

This is a great website for info. Thanks Fred_Ide for your info. One more question though, I got my BSN in the Philippines and have worked here in the US for 18 years. Did a masteral level as a nurse anesthesia student but with 3 hrs of sleep Monday to Friday (& I had to stop working from my job with no income for 18 months and moved to Connecticut) and with small children, I lasted for 18 months out of the 29 months program and moved back to the SF bay area. I was wondering if I will get a UK license if they will give me an RN license in France or probably go to nurse anesthesia school (but I doubt if they will let me do that either, huh?) but my biggest hurdle would be to speak francaise. I am working in the 2 of the top 10 best hospitals in the US (on the west coast) and my clinical skills are excellent - patients with continuous hemo-hemo filtration (CVVH), intra-aortic balloon pump, ventricular assist devices and ECMO (external end-organ machine similar to bypass but continuous). Free education for your kids, good health insurance and good retirement would be better to high pay. :wink2:

How are you planning on getting work permit? just having a UK RN license will not assist in work permit and seeing as France is part of the EU they have to employ from within the EU first. You will also still have to meet French requirements so getting a UK license will not help. Once fluent in French I suggest contacting some hospitals in the areas you would like to live and see what the current situation is regarding assistance with work permits

Hi, my name is Elizabeth, I want to be a nurse and I will be starting college soon. I'm pretty confident in my knowledge of the requirements here in California but I don't want to study here.

I speak French well and I would like to do all of my studying in France. All of it, no American university, if possible. I found this program called "CampusFrance", but really don't know how to get my degree.

I've already seen what it takes to be a French nurse if I already had my license here, but that doesn't help since I have almost no experience. If it helps, I would've worked for 2 years as a dental assistant by the time of my high school graduation.

Hi Elizabeth

If you go to France to train as a nurse be aware that if accepted International fees will be very expensive and you may not be allowed to work or have very limited working hours which may not support you. If you do get to that stage then when you qualify you will always be classed as a foreign trained nurse and will have to meet that BON/BRN requirements. Also may not give you leave to remain in the EU and work once qualified.

I would really consider what you plan to do as living overseas on a student visa can be very expensive

I would really like to move to France with my partner in about 5 years time. My partner and I both work in mental health, he is a care assistant and I am training to be a nurse. I just wondered if anyone knows if there are a lot of psychiatric hospitals in France and how I would find out where they are and such like. Plus is the nursing the same as mentioned above for psychiatric hospitals or different? How different is the pay rates too? We both work on agencies full time in England at the moment which pays quite well, is it very different over there?

There are lots of psychiatric hospitals. I lived near Limoges- there is Esquirol in Limoges and loads of smaller psychiatric hospitals in the smaller towns around. Pay is about 16,000 E a month but sometimes more- there is a ladder system. Usually people start with month long contracts then if they are approved of they may become stagiere which is kind of probation for a year, and then if that is ok they become titulaire which is a long contract. Your job is very safe then however it is also difficult to leave it if your place of work is short staffed... Good luck!

I have worked as an agency nurse for a year in Paris, basically there is 3 major agencies in Paris: Quick Medical Services, l'appel medical (Those 2 have jobs and agency almost every part of France) and JBM. They find you "missions" from short term (1 day) to several weeks. They can cancel you last minute (and they will not pay you) and they can call you whenever they need you. you can give them the day you want to work..I guess it is basically the same as England and US. The pay is slighly higher than hospitals (i would say around 1900euros a month) but you don't get pay for vacation.

I was working with 2 of them to be sure to get a full schedule..and worked alost every day in a different unit and a different hospital!

By the way I think there is a mistake in the previous post the pay is not 16000euros a month!! I would probably have stayed in France otherwise!!!but 1600euros...

kumusta. i read your posts and what can i say it is really hard to get a job as a nurse here in france. there are a lot of vacant positions but sad to say that for us filipino nurses the possibility are rather slim but good for you since you're married to a frenchman because the requirements according to the DDASS are 1. either married to a french national 2. or you are here as a refugie . I've made inquiries before but since I do not qualify with either requirements I am obliged to go to school here which is actually not a very good option for me. anyway just make good in your french studies although there is one filipina who made it as a nurse here. she was sent by her employer to a nursing school so she was able to work in a hospital. boone courage et a bientot!!!!
