Hello NYsante, I am a French RN and I am in NYC for 6 weeks now. In France we have a big store that is the equivalent of the Barnes and Noble here, it is named "FNAC". Their website is www.fnac.fr and you will find lots of them in Paris. There is one in Les Halles... There is a very good serie of books which is recommended by some teachers at nursing school : "Les nouveaux cahiers de l'infirmière". I almost have them all and I brought them with me here in NYC because they are very helpful and easy to read and understand with a lot of illustrations.

I would also recommend you another book about the technical part "soins infirmiers - fiches techniques" by Maloine. This one explains every single act we practice at the bedside.

I just received my number from the social security office and my green card and so I will apply to some hospitals for a job in Manhattan. May I ask you where in NY you are working and how is it?

Voilà, do not hesitate to ask if you wanted to know something else.

Salut !!!!!

do they have lvns in germany

considering that this is a post on nursing in France you may be better of starting a new thread and ask this question. Mainly for immigration you will be looking at RN not LVN's

Bon soir!

This thread is so good!! It has already helped me alot!! I would still like to know few more things... I'm a finnish RN qualified in finland and i've worked in operating theatres the whole of my 4,5 year experience. At the moment living in Ireland so i have a good english. I've started to learn french now and hope that i'm able to learn it during the summer.

My boyfriend moved in Paris, so i would like to follow... I heard there is an American hospital in paris.

So my questions are.... Does anybody know the salary that the theatre nurses get in that hospital? How long approx. will it take to get registered in the french health care system when I come from another EU country and have the EU qualified degree? And do you think I have to start as a nursing assistant? I won't even mind that as long as I can get some job from that hospital...

A big thanks to everybody who have been giving so usefull information this far!!! :icon_hug:

Reading your online discussion is very helpful.

I am a french citizen living in California since 6 years. I earned a Bachelors in Anthropology from UC Berkeley and want to get my Masters in Nursing at UC San Francisco. They have a special program called MEPN (Bachelors in 1 year + Masters in 2 years). I would love to go back to my country after school and have some questions in mind regarding the equivalence of diplomas. For example I heard that American nursing diplomas are not recognized in France and that I will have to got back to school in France if I want to work there? Is it true? Do anybody has a Californian Masters degree in nursing and know about the process? Is the American diploma recognized in the UK, Switzerland, or Belgium? Should I go there first then go back to France?

Also if anybody did the MEPN program in nursing I would be interested to know a little more about their experiences? How challenging was it? Did you like it?

Merci beaucoup.

Hi...I just joined this group and was following this thread....did you ever apply to UCSF? I graduated from there 7 years ago. I was in the FNP program. We had MEPN students who did quite well and all got jobs as I recall. I am grateful, though that I was already an RN...it really is the "bread and butter" job here in the US.

Good Luck!

Hello everybody!

Can someone give me some information regarding nursing in france. I have a Canadian diploma (BScN), also speak fluent french and english, have both candian and USA licenses. I would like to go work in Paris but have no idea if there is such a thing as an agency, just like the travel nurses in USA. I've been reading some of the comments on this forum and Im wondering if there is another way of organising the visa, job, requirements..from Canada, and not in person in France. I need help please...

Hi everybody,

I am a male nurse in France (I am French, excuse me for my English but I try to become better), so, since 2004 I think it is not so easy to work in France as a nurse if you come from outside the EU.

This is the law (in French) which define how to do for nurses with not a French diploma http://www.admi.net/jo/20040221/SANP0420013A.html

Here an explanation in English http://www.edufrance.net/adm/docs/filieres2004/infirmier2-GB.pdf

And here informations from American Hospital of Paris (It is the only bilingual hospital in France)

I hope that can help you if you are interesting to come in France.:welcome:

You will need to start with their licensing process before doing anything. You will have to write their nursing exam, as well as take the French exams, if you did not train in Montreal. They do not use travel agencies the way that we do in the US.

If you get thru the licensing process, then it should not be an issue to get a job there. But the licensing will need to come first and they are not fast at getting that done.

And just looking a Fred's post above, issues with jobs due to not coming from the EU will be at the top of your list. We are seeign that in many other coutries right now in the EU.
