    Hi,
I am new here and I am from Germany.
I live here with my husband and 3 kids since almost 8 years!
My youngest son will start Kindergarten after summer so that i think that this is for me a good opportunity to start working again here in the US. Right now I try to find out what I have exactly to do in order to resive my Florida licence as a German with a German Nurse Diploma!
Is there somebody who can tell me which way I have to go. I am sorry I know I have still to work on my english-skills.

    Take care

  4. You need to contact the nursing board in Florida about their requirements, I believe you will need CES full from CGFNS but confirm with the board.
Link for board here or on CGFNS.org site. More info there as well. And there were threads here about florida licence as well. But many things will be easier for you since you have a visa and SSN, right?

  5. Dear 5 Cats,

thank you for your replay. I will take a look at this web site. (cgfns.org.)
What das CES mean. And what about the NCLEX test?

  6. credentual evaluation service, look at the cgfns site, there's also a link to all the boards and their requirements.
NCLEX is the state exam that you have to take after the board declares you for eligible, it's a long proccess

CES is a credential evaluation of your training. Until it is done and the Florida BON assess your application you can not sit NCLEX which you need to pass to get a license enabling you to work as a nurse in the US

  8. Hallo Floridamom,

i am also from Germany and currently living in Texas.
I hope I am able to help you get started with the hole process.
Before you apply to the Board of Nursing in Florida for inital licensure you have to get a Certification of Educational Equivalency which is done by CGFNS or ERES. All your school credentials and the nursing diploma have to be send from the nursing school and Government division directley to CGFNS or ERES. The paperwork you need for this: your school transcripts, breakdown of your educational hours, your nursing curriculum and your diploma issued by the German Government. You want to do a course by course evaluation ( CES )
If your coursework was not entirely in English you will need the test of English as a Foreign Language ( Toefl for example ) with a passingscore determined by the Board of Nursing you apply to.
Since you have been in the USA for the past 8 years I suppose you hold a Greencard and a SSN, therefore you will not need the Visascreen service.
Note for CGFNS and/or ERES, download the paperapplication and do exactly as they say so you don't have any delays in your application process. You will need certified translations of you paperwork including your nursing curriculum. After they issue your CES you will receive a copy and the original will be send directly to the Board of Nursing.
I did my evaluation with ERES duo to the fact that i did not need Visascreen and ERES is much faster than CGFNS. On the other hand, if you planning on going back to school you might need the educational equivalency done by CGFNS.
I hope I could help a little to get you started and if you need more information I will try to answer them as good as I can.
P.s I have a translated nursing curriculum for you if you need it.
    bye for now

But this is life. I really hope that i can do it again in order to start working here as a nurse.

have a nice weekend and many thanks
  10. Dear Floridamom,

  11. Hi
I am also a nurse from Germany and wanted to let you know, that it will take some time, but it is possible.
It took me about 2 years, since I needed 2 classes and had to back to school for one semester, but it helped me to prepare for the NCLEX.
Be patient, but persistent with CGFNS, it can get frustating at times, but you have no choice, but to use them.
Good luck, let me know, if you need anything else.
