UW-Oshkosh Accelerated BSN - May 2015 Cohort

Greetings!

I've started the application process for the May 2015 cohort, with the September 15, 2014 deadline in mind. I've completed the academic prerequisites, with the exception of Biochemistry; and I'm enrolled in that for this fall semester. Luckily, I scored well enough on the TEAS V that I won't need to take an advanced composition class. I live in Milwaukee and I've been taking prerequisites at Milwaukee Area Technical College. I haven't yet started my CNA training and I hope to have that completed in October or November.

Once I decided to leave full-time employment to concentrate on prerequisites, I started doing very well and am thoroughly enjoying my classes. UW-Oshkosh uses prerequisite grades to determine GPA, so I should be competitive in that regard. My TEAS V scores were quite high, so I should be in good shape there, as well. My definitive weakness will be my lack of CNA experience. Past UW-Oshkosh ABSN threads show the lack of CNA experience trips up many applicants.

Is anyone else thinking of applying?

I am going to apply for the fall. I am super skeptical about my chances of being accepted. If you don't mind me asking- what was your GPA, how much CNA experience did you have ? Congrats, to your acceptance!!

Hi Everyone! SO I got news yesterday that I got in!! SO excited! Congrats Husicl..we don´t know each other yet but we´ll be cohorting together in May.

To everyone that didn´t get in.. make an appointment with Sue. That is what I did after I didn´t get in the last cohort and she gave me good advice. And she also mentioned that they didn´t accept anyone without CNA experience so don´t feel bad..just get a CNA job and keep truckin´along and I´m sure you´ll get in the next cohort. Best of luck xo

Thank you aperhyl. I have really high GPA and one year of CNA experience. I would recommend you to send an email to Sue, she will tell you what you need to do. From my experience I think TEAS V and CNA experience are very important. However, they are looking into everything because a lot of students apply each cohort. Good luck.

Aperhyl, I also had a really high GPA and a pretty good TEAS V score. By the time we start the program I will have been working as a CNA for a year. The only thing I did differently was the CNA experience and revamp my resumé. Good luck!

I will be taking the teasv test in about two weeks. I am very nervous about that. How was the test was it hard? Did you study a lot for it? Congrats to you again!!

Thank you. So for the test I bought the ATI TEAS V study manual and I used my own science books to review the science portions. I don't think it is difficult if you are fresh out of school. My friends that did better than I did had a packet of 5 practice tests from McGraw Hill but I only used the practice exams in my study manual. The only stressful part of the exam is that it is timed.

I am looking to apply to the May 2016 cohort. Congrats to all of you who got in For May 2015. I was wondering if any of you could give me an idea of what your schedule for the program looks like? Specifically the dates for the campus residencies??

Just our to curiosity, does anyone accepted to the 2015 cohort know of anyone else in the program who was accepted but had no to little CNA experience?

snwbal41786, from what i've heard they make two piles "those with cna experience and those without" and they first go thru the pile with experience. if they have any room in the cohort after that, then they go thru the other pile. but i'd be curious to hear what students in the program have to say. overall, i'd love to know the average amount of CNA experience when accepted.

I'm applying for May 2016 cohort. Hoping to get my CNA training next month--it's been tough to schedule since i'm a SAHM and primary daytime caregiver for my boys. Sitting in the training all day is hard. But we'll make it work-somehow. This is the last requirement (other than taking the TEAS V this summer) that I have to complete. How about you? Did you apply this year? Have you worked as a CNA long?
