-Describe a typical day at your job I am a nephrology advanced practice RN (APN) and usually my day revolves around seeing patients in the dialysis units. I examine those that are ill, look at medications, prescribe tests, teach the nursing staff.

-What do you find satisfying about this job What satisfies at this job is that I feel that I am helping these patients. One unit has 165 patients that are poor, indigent and/or homeless. They need so much more than just dialysis.

-What are the biggest challenges you face in this work Again, the poor, indigent population and lack of motivation on my patients' part to take responsibility for their actions.

-What do you not like about this job Noncompliant patients.

-What educational/training preparation do you suggest I have a masters degree in nursing and then I have a post-MSN certificate. I have 14 years experience as an RN, 10 of those in a level one truama center.

-What salary range could I expec to start in this job Varies tremendously depending on the part of the courntry you are in.

-What continuing education options are available in this field I have to have a minimum number of CEU's per certifying period. I also do all the regular certifications such as CPR and ACLS.

-What future potential is there for advancement There is little to no potential for advancement in my present job. However, I am kinda at the top of the heap so to speak since I'm a mid-level provider.
